SPECIAL EDITION - JOHN HARGROVE - Beneath the Surface: Killer Whales, SeaWorld

    in Entertainment

johnjhargrove new book #beneaththesurface this is the story about a major corporation #seaworld that broke the heart and the dreams of a little boy that was a killer whale trainer but sadly as john learned of sea world's treatment of the whales he knew his dream had to end. This heartbreaking story is #beneaththesurface and tells about his personal story and now his life long Journey to save the whales to get them out of captivity

Beneath the Surface - Over the course of two decades, John Hargrove worked with 20 different whales on two continents and at two of SeaWorld's U.S. facilities. For Hargrove, becoming an orca trainer fulfilled a childhood dream. However, as his experience with the whales deepened, Hargrove came to doubt that their needs could ever be met in captivity. When two fellow trainers were killed by orcas in marine parks, Hargrove decided that SeaWorld's wildly popular programs were both detrimental to the whales and ultimately unsafe for trainers.

Jill Kossoff -Get to know the marketing genius behind the "OrcaBall".

    in News

Similar to the Mickey Mouse Antenna ball that once you see the sphere with the two ears on it you instantly know that is Mickey Mouse, we are hoping the OrcaBall will gain iconic global recognition in the same way and assist in educating people that Orcas do NOT belong in captivity.  We are hoping to see these on cars, in homes and offices around the globe.

The OrcaBall Antenna Topper and OrcaBall Sticker were designed to represent an Orca in captivity with a collapsed(drooped over) dorsal fin.  This is an iconic representation for what happens to 100% of male Orcas in captivity and some of the females as well.

The Orca Research Trust receives 10% of every OrcaBall Antenna Topper and the Orca Network receives 10% of every Orcaball Sticker we sell.  The fourth endorser standing along side of us is the Voice of the Orcas group.  The VOTO are made up of the four key Ex-Sea World Trainers that were featured in the movie Blackfish.  They are 100% behind our product and they consist of, Jeffrey Ventre, Samantha Berg, John Jett and Carol Ray.

Be one of the lucky callers when you hear the dolphin chime and win an OrcaBall with sticker for your own personal use and don't forget to send them a picture of you and your OrcaBall!

Visit their site at www.OrcaBall.com and like them on Facebook at www.FB.com/OrcaBall.

Interview with Nathan Vandenbroek - Blackfish Racing

    in News

Nathan Vandenbroek is a multi-sport activist who races to raise awareness about marine mammal captivity, the Taiji dolphin slaughter in Japan, and ocean preservation. He raced in the Louisville Ironman this past August dedicating that race to the Taiji, Japan dolphins that are slaughtered every year starting September 1st. After seeing the movie “Blackfish” and “The Cove”, Nathan and his wife started Blackfish Racing which promotes three non-profit organizations, OPS Oceanic Preservation Society, Ric O’Barry Dolphin Project, and The Orca Network. Growing up in Washington state on Whidbey Island, Nathan’s roots are closely tied to the ocean and the Puget Sound area. He will be dedicating the 70.3 Ironman Miami race to the orca known as Lolita who was kidnapped from the Puget Sound area 44 years ago and has been held captive in the smallest tank in North America at the Miami Seaquarium. Blackfish Racing hopes that someday soon Lolita will be returned to her family that still resides in the waters where she was kidnapped. For more information on Lolita please check out www.orcanetwork.org and www.savelolita.org  and www.dolphinproject.net

Interview With Alex Louise Dorer and Mini Krishnan

    in Environment

Alex Louise Dorer of Fins and Fluke and Mini Krishnan of Orca United will join me to talk about the upcoming Marineland Protest: Free Kiska on Saturday, May 31 at 11:00am at MarineLand Canada 7657 Portage Road, Niagara Falls, Ontario L2E 6X8.

Since the release of the documentary "Blackfish", there has been a huge momentum to help liberate captive orcas across the world from inadequate living conditions at marine parks. Kiska is the last captive orca in Canada, and has been named as the saddest and loneliest in the world. This event will highlight the issues of marine mammal captivity and will focus on calling for Kiska's release to a seapen or more suitable home with other orcas. It will be to draw in more support in closing down Marineland, and will follow a protest on May 17 to help to continue the pressure on the park. All are welcome to join!

BLACKFISH: Your Calls & Thoughts with Christopher Reburn

    in Spirituality

In January 2014 I did a show about Blackfish, the eye-opening documentary that uncovered and exposed SeaWorld for decades of animal abuse, neglect and kidnapping baby orca whales from their beloved families in the world's oceans. This was a very powerful 'first show of the year' that touched so many of you.

Since it's release and continued airings on CNN, Blackfish has been causing major waves at SeaWorld, including rapid declines in attendance and ticket sales and collective debates as to whether or not orca's belong in captivity. Millions of people from around the world have got onboard The Blackfish Effect, and continue to spread the world about the documentary in hopes of one day shutting down SeaWorld and releasing the orca's back into their natural environment.

Former SeaWorld trainer Samantha Berg (who was featured in the Blackfish movie) talks with us about her thoughts on Blackfish, SeaWorld and what will likely be the future for the beloved Tilikum. Samantha was most generous with her time and spent nearly 20 minutes with us when we were only scheduled for 3-5 minutes! Thanks again Samantha! For a remainder of the show, we'll opened up the phone lines to hear from you, and your thoughts about Blackfish & SeaWorld. Oh yes, and my Mother makes an appearance....
