In the "Livan Hernandez is probably still pitching somewhere" edition, Jeffrey and his archenemy Greg try and parse small sample sizes (small sample sample sizes). Can we find something nice to say about opening day? Well, there's always David Wright. Was Monday an ill portent for the Mets bullpen? Well, there's not nearly enough evidence to conclude that, but probably. Also, Jeffrey issues a mea culpa for ever doubting Jenrry Mejia, and we try and deduce who will be off the 25-man roster for Jon Niese. There's plenty of talk about Bobby Parnell's elbow as well, which, come to think of it, is probably more convincing evidence that the bullpen is doomed.. And of course we answer your e-mails, and bring you a Montreal travelogue set to the soothing, public domain sounds of Erik Satie.

Baseball's Opening Day or is it ?
The baseball season started in Australia, with the Dodgers and Diamondbacks serving as ambassadors for the big-league game in Sydney. Now, thanks to “Opening Night,” the Dodgers will have played three regular season games before 27 teams have played even one. The first game played on opening day will be the fourth of the season. Oh, and then the Astros and Yankees don’t get started until Tuesday. USAToday
Beginning in 1886, the Chicago White Stockings were the first major League baseball team to get ready for their season in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
A whose who of Negro Leagues teams spent time training in Hot Springs – the Memphis Red Sox, Cleveland Buckeyes, New York Cubans, Baltimore Elites, Buck O’Neil and the Kansas City Monarchs. The New York Black Yankees, Chicago American Giants, Homestead Grays, Pittsburgh Crawfords and Detroit Stars also hopped on the bus and went South for spring training and played games versus local teams.
On this mournful day, consider the group of mankind worse off; Ralph McPherran Kiner has died. One of baseball's genuine and most charming gentlemen, foremost sluggers and most enduring personalities passed away Thursday at age 91 MLB
