Obstacle course racing is the next soccer. Yeah, it's a 'thing'. You've probably heard of one. Or know someone who has---or will---do one. They change lives.
And for us MyFixitUpLifer's there's an extra cool part: It's loaded with DIY of building stuff. So if you’re not lacing up for your own obstacle course racing journey, without people to build the obstacles—for races or for backyards---the race is just a walk in the woods. So this MyFixitUpLife show will inspire the fire for the DIY of OCR.
Spartan Race’s (in)famous Race Director Norm Koch takes us behind the spectacle where the tools are machetes and chainsaws and a whole lotta work. And HGTV’s John Colaneri—co-host of America’s Most Desperate Kitchens and a Spartan racing / Cross-fit nut job (we love you anyway Johnny)—chimes in with fitness tips he uses to stay extra handsome.
This isn't about the gym. Or how fast you go. It's about life itself and building your own tools for the journey. As someone I admire wrote: I already know what it feels like to fail. I want to see what it's like to succeed.
Life happens to all of us. It's what we do about it that counts; how we handle the obstacles.
So tool up and come obstacle course racing with us Lifers, time for a little dirty fun.
Training and racing for obstacle races such as Spartan, Atlas, Tough Mudder and Battle Frog places unique demands on an athlete. These events require the ability to perform at far greater intensity than preparing for a marathon. Richard Diaz and his guest Dr. Harry Pino, a renowned sport scientist discuss these demands and the program written by Richard Diaz tailor made to prepare these athletes for the rigors of these intense competitions that he has justifiably named “The Dark Side” Lactate Tolerance Training for high intensity running
Obstacle course racing “Spartan Racing” is the fastest growing professional sport in the country. Hunter Mcintyre is the leading Reebok elite athlete on the Spartan Race circuit. Hunter, who to refers to himself as “The Sheriff” shares his story.
Spartan racing was the brain child of Joe De Sena, arguably one of the toughest extreme athletes in the world and founder of the original “Death Race”. Spartan Racing is edgy, running through fire, wading through freezing water, being electrocuted, climbing through mud pools and over walls from anywhere between 3-14 miles and up to 25 obstacles that you don’t get a chance to prepare for. Suffice to say, these races are challenging and there lies the appeal. Hunter was born to compete in these events and since 2012; he has never finished off of the podium. If you enjoy human gritty competition, Spartan racing is for you.

Letter from Don Mann
There are a number of very personal reasons why I created Frogman Charities, Inc.:
As a retired Navy SEAL I have a very clear understanding of the many hardships and sacrifices that our military and their families make and live with on a daily basis. The men and woman in uniform are often deployed in harm’s way or away from home training for combat, sometimes up to 300 days a year. It is far too often that our troops return home injured and/or do not make it home alive. The only people who truly appreciate the magnitude of these sacrifices are the men and women in uniform and their families. Living on a military salary generally meets the needs of the military family but when tragedy strikes, these families require much more than they receive.
Frogman Charities’ Objective is to raise over one million dollars for select military and veteran charities per year.. You can be a part of this Seal team members effort.
