This week I will be re-introducing myself which will be my third attempt at a Podcast as well as giving a Runner's take to describe this week's event..... NYRR's NYC 1/2 Marathon which to takes place in the streets of New York City in mid March.
As an overview this Podcast will endure my journey to the Running of my 2nd New York City Marathon and share the interesting events I attend along the way
The 2012 New York City Marathon was canceled. How did the week unfold from the inside? Merle Trichon of Sweaty Bands is on the show to talk about her experience as a vendor at the expo. Getting to New York, transporting product, setting up, the mood of the runners and the city, the announcement, the expo the day after and the amazing volunteer effort that took place by the running community. All this and much more as we also pause to remember the victims of Hurricane Sandy and the extreme challenges they're having getting their lives back to normal. It's a fascinating look at the event.
We talk to runners who were scheduled to run the 2012 NYC Marathon and who are running the 2013 NYC Marathon. How much do you remember about last year? Listen in as they all recount their experience around last year's race and their plans for 2013. The 2013 ING New York CIty Marathon will be a historic race.
The NYC Marathon is a monster. We have three NYC 2010 marathoners on the show who have also run it in the past. They'll talk about the excitement of the start, a personal story about NYC and the spectacular finish, plus the 5K, plus much more. Join Karla Bruning, Magda Cardoso and Kevin Horty as they talk about America's biggest marathon.
Thanks for listening to Sports Palooza Radio! We're back with another great show.
This weekend is the New York City marathon and Alan Brown is the Team Reeve participant who is a quadriplegic, training for the NYC marathon with a hand cycle and hopes to raise $260,000 for research. He'll tell us his story! What another inspiration!
And, finally, to help keep players safe and prevent the kinds of injuries he sees in his practice, New York’s Dr. Patrick Kerr spent more than a decade developing a protective device that is put into standard issued shoulder pads and turns them into a system that engages the helmet as a football player braces for impact. He has invented The KERR Collar, which reduces head and neck movement 38% during a collision and absorbs 58% of the collision impact, redistributing the force of the hit away from the head and neck area to reduce injury risk.
It's going to be a great show!
(For those of you who might have turned in to hear our interview with Olden Polynice, we had to reschedule. Look for his interview in an upcoming podcast!)
We discuss running the 2015 Chicago Marathon with local Susan Cruz and Robert Schulz who grew up there. It was a beautiful and and a wonderful city for an exception marathon, even if goal times weren't acheived.
On this episode, my friends Brittany Brown, Caryn Vita and Mark "The Hobbit" Avis join to discuss the fun they had running the 2015 Bird In Hand Half Marathon. I then discuss the wonderful Fall weather that has arrived in the South and the effect it is having on my training.
Listen as we talk to the Voice of America's Marathons Rudy Novotny about how he has been the last year and half, runDisney, what is trending in running and just catching up. We also discuss the 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon with my friends Laura Gilbreath, Lee Zimmerman & Joe Weeks. I also update you on how training is going as I prepare for the Chicago Marathon. Please take a listen and enjoy!
On this episode I sit down with my good running buddy Johnny Buice who has quite a story from starting running in his 30's to finishing Western States and the Boston Marathon along with starting a local running club in Douglasville, Georgia, The Douglas County Rogue Runners. He is a good friend and he has inspired and encouraged many runners.
Original host Joe Taricani hands off the show to new Host Eddie McCoy. You will learn about Eddie's background and what to expect from the show moving forward.
