Nursing home reportcard
Seems as if no one wants to go to a nursing home, or long term care facility. Let's explore why not, and what makes a good nursing home. How do you stay out of a nursing home? Stay healthy and stay safe.
Shirley talks about two states, Wisconsin and Alaska, and how they compare to each other in the reportcard. Did you know that RN staffing hours were measured in this report card. How many hours do you want to be bothered if you live in a nursing home, does 3 hours seem good?

This week, given my recent experience inside a nursing home/physical rehab facility, I would like to discuss the ins and outs, the good and the bad that come with facilities like these. Do they provide ample care? Are the staffed well? And does that staff really care about their patients. Plus, do these places get enough support from the state and federal side. Should there be more oversight? A watch dog of sorts at these care facilities? This week, "On-Air".
Roslyn Drotar, Darin Ard with Ard Law Firm & Judy DiCioccio of Estate Planning Law Center host this conversation about marketing to nursing homes and the steps you need to take to market your elder law practice to them.
As time goes on we will witness our parents and loved ones get older. Through the process of aging we will be forced to make decisions about their care if they are unable to care for themselves.
Some families are fortunate enough to take their loved ones into their own homes and provide in-home care. But what happens when we are forced to admit our loved ones into a facility which we find later to offer sub-standard care?
Well, on this episode of Hot Topics Talk Radio, we’re going to discuss the nature of care offered by nursing home facilities, and how they affect the care and over-all health of our loved ones and seniors.

Fro the past several years I have had the profound experience of working as a psychological consultant in two nursing homes that also contain rehabilitation units. While the physical care provided residents is mostly adequate their treatment as human beings defined by selves and identities is horrendous. Part of the problem stems form the way we, as a culture, deal with old age, death and dying. The result is that all the pain, existential anxiety, depression, loss of autonomy and dignity are treated as mental disorders to be understood and managed by the psychiatric model. The results are to reduce human beings to nonpersons who feel isolated, lonely, frightened and often filled with rage and self pity. Alternate stories are suggested.
