Are you looking for a time-tested, real-world and validated formula for bringing together a community for greater giving in the event of a disaster?
Join the conversation as we invite Michael McCausland a seasoned speaker, thought leader and architect for International Disaster Response as he shares some insight, thought leadership and best practices for how to create, manage and deploy greater community giving and response in the midst of a disaster.
About the Guest:
Michael was licensed by the NRC as a Reactor Operator in 1983. He then formed his own consulting company providing operations, change management, strategy development, and training services to over 50% of the operating nuclear plants in the US, and now other business sectors around the world. Michael was the first Lead for DHS to incorporate the private sector into the largest disaster response exercise in the US. He is the Executive Director of HISG.org, an international NGO operating in 130+ countries, and helped build the International Disaster Response Network (www.IDRN.info) now operating in 35+ countries.
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), has been through a series of changes since its inception in 1974. Today the NRC is preparing to evaluate new applications for nuclear plants and in doing so, the organization must be sure to hire and retain top talent, making human capital management a critical division at the NRC. In this podcast interview, Miriam Cohen, Chief Human Capital Officer, NRC, speaks to Kelly Hushin, Online Content Manger for Worldwide Business Research (WBR), producers of the HCMF conference, about employee engagement.
Ms. Cohen will speak about similar topics at the Human Capital Management Federal conference, which takes place November 14 to 16 in Arlington, Virginia. You can visit the website to learn more.

Flood waters of the Missouri River are expected to keep rising for the next few weeks, as upriver dams are forced to release run-off from record rainfalls. A special alert was issued to us by the Lawrence Chapter of the Sustainable Action Network informing us of two nuclear power plants that have been flooded and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission have declared "No Fly Zones." Robert Knight and former nuclear plant operator, Arnie Gunderson, discuss from the program summary:
On June 6, 2011, the Fort Calhoun pressurized water nuclear reactor 20 miles north of Omaha, Nebraska entered emergency status due to imminent flooding from the Missouri River. A day later, there was an electrical fire requiring plant evacuation. Then, on June 8th, NRC event reports confirmed the fire resulted in the loss of cooling for the reactor's spent fuel pool. The discussion includes specific details of the technical failures at Fort Calhoun, the risks of coolant loss at overcrowded "spent" fuel pools, and the national hazards of nuclear facilities along the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, and other water sites during the current period of floods and climate change. Includes line-by-line analysis of official NRC "Event Reports."
This 40 minute segment of Mr. Knight's 5 O'Clock Shadow was broadcast at WBAI Radio Pacifica and is available at The A-Info Radio Project. We are grateful to both him and members of the Lawrence Sustainability Action Network for these news contributions. Thank you.
Callers welcome during the second hour.
