    Michael Goldsmith is a 26 year veteran of law enforcement.  He joined the Norfolk Police Department in 1989 and ascended to his current position of Chief of Police in Norfolk Virginia in 2012.    His appointment represented the first time in 20 years that a local officer was promoted to the top spot in Norfolk law enforcement. Chief Goldsmith has extensive leadership and command experience. He supervised investigative, patrol and tactical units throughout his career.  He also managed patrol responses and critical incidents involving the special operations team.   Chief Goldsmith also served as the commanding officer of the office of professional standards where he supervised all aspects of administrative investigations concerning police misconduct and citizen complaints.


    Mr. Joe Dillard was appointed chairman of housing and community planning for Norfolk State University NAACP chapter.  In April of 2013, Mr. Dillard was appointed chairman of the economic development commitee of the Norfolk branch NAACP.  Then, in September of the same year…. he was appointed 2nd Vice President of the branch; and, in October he assumed the role of interim President and served the remaining term of the outgoing president.  One year later… December 2014 he was elected into the office of President.

    Norfolk Public Schools and sexual harassment of students

    Education reporter Cherise M. Newsome joins Pilot Radio to discuss a federal investigation that found Norfolk Public Schools negligent in handling complaints in middle and high schools about sexual harassment and treatment of students with disabilities. Newsome was first to break the story about the investigation, which concluded earlier this year. School leaders heard about the results in May, but not the general public. The Pilot published her story Sept. 27 after Newsome obtained a copy of the report from the U.S. Education Department's Office for Civil Rights. On Sunday, The Pilot is scheduled to publish Newsome’s exclusive interview with the family that spurred the investigation.

    Player Spotlight: DE Lynden Trail, Norfolk State

    Lynden Trail is a game changer with phenomenal speed at 6-6 and a high motor style that wreaks havoc on opponents. Trail was a first-team FCS All-American selection as a junior and is a two-time All-MEAC first-team player. He had 95 total tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in 2013.


    The former Florida Gator finished the 2014 season with 91 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks. He forced a pair of fumbles, deflected four passes, blocked two kicks (one punt and one field goal) and was credited with nine quarterback hurries.


    Trail has been invited to participate in both the Reese's Senior Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game, the nation's two most acclaimed postseason college football all-star games. He will be the first Norfolk State Spartan to ever play in the Senior Bowl.


    Lynden Trail is a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, given annually to the top defensive player in the FCS. Trail was eighth in the voting last season for the Buchanan Award in addition to winning the College Football Performance Award's FCS Defensive Performer of the Year Award. 


    A rare athletic specimen, Trail is quickly climbing up draft boards and is fast becoming a highly touted player in scouting circles. Lynden joins Joe Everett of Draft Scouts to talk about his college career and the NFL Draft process.
