Console Wars author Blake J Harris Live with Scott Cluthe
NPR: Best book of the Year !
Seth Rogen from the forward: "The "Console Wars" between Nintendo and Sega is what began a series of events that will lead to the end of humanity as we know it." (well of course!)
Console Wars—a mesmerizing, behind-the-scenes business thriller that chronicles how Sega, a small, scrappy gaming company led by an unlikely visionary and a team of rebels, took on the juggernaut Nintendo and revolutionized the video game industry.
In 1990, Nintendo had a virtual monopoly on the video game industry. Sega, on the other hand, was just a faltering arcade company with big aspirations and even bigger personalities. But that would all change with the arrival of Tom Kalinske, a man who knew nothing about videogames and everything about fighting uphill battles. His unconventional tactics, combined with the blood, sweat and bold ideas of his renegade employees, transformed Sega and eventually led to a ruthless David-and-Goliath showdown with rival Nintendo.
The battle was vicious, relentless, and highly profitable, eventually sparking a global corporate war that would be fought on several fronts: from living rooms and schoolyards to boardrooms and Congress.
Based on over two hundred interviews with former Sega and Nintendo employees, Console Wars is the underdog tale of how Kalinske miraculously turned an industry punchline into a market leader.
Blake J. Harris is a writer and filmmaker based out of New York. He is currently codirecting the documentary based on this book, which is being produced by Scott Rudin, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg. He will also serve as an executive producer on Sony's feature-film adaptation of Console Wars.

Welcome to the official 411mania.com Games Zone podcast, which is hosted by 411 Games staffers Sean Garmer and Marc Morrison and also feature's appearances from other staff members as well. We really appreciate the opportunity to be on VOC Nation and hope you enjoy the podcast. We will be coming to you each week via on-demand on Wednesday mornings at 9am. We usually discuss what's going on in gaming news each week, talk about what we are playing, if we are reviewing any games, and go over the video games coming out the following week.
What a contrast of styles we had within one hour of each other. Nintendo showed off Star Fox, Muppets, and lots of Mario content, while Square-Enix showed a lot of stuff that had already been revealed, plus Star Ocean 5.
Sean and Marc are joined by Stephen Randle, and Backlog Busting Project's Wes Harrington and Randy Isbelle to discuss and break down everything that happened.

This week, Sean and Marc have plenty of news from Nintendo. Everything from Splatoon selling over 1 Million copies to Reggie Fils-Aime voicing his opinion on VR. The Dishonored developers also revealed how much control the players will have over the characters, Tetsuya Nomura promises changes to the Final Fantasy VII Remake and Online for Kingdom Hearts 3? What? Yeah it's a thing apparently.
So, join us for all of that, plus Marc has his thoughts on Batman Arkham Knight on PC, both guys have been playing some Ori and the Blind Forest, and much more.
Join me, Bayne Duum and a guest co-host, Steve, to talk about Nintendo. With Nintendo's recent games and upcoming games, I want to share some thoughts with the world on how I think they can make a very big power move. We will talk about how Nintendo can take the crown back, how studios can take advantage of Nintendo and how Nintendo can add to their already powerful first party titles. Come join Bayne and Steve to talk Nintendo and let us open your eyes to the possibilities.
Going all the way back to the Attacks on Charlie Hebdo and before people have been hooping and hollering about censorship and artistic freedom, and when in Rome, you scream at Romans until you're arrested for charges you need to be translated
so Kai and myself will be throwing our two cents in tbe bucket regarding this concept as it has recently become an issue (big surprise) in the comic book world. A variant cover showing a batgirl being victimized by the Joker, which brough fresh to readers mind's " The Killing Joke" arc in which batgirl was brutally attacked and left for dead.
we'll discuss this and some pretty cool videogame news about Nintendo, and some intrgrigue @ Konami.
Biss and Evan talk Casey Jones, GotG2, Luke Cage and Nintendo ... Just trust us it will be awesome ... Daredevil in 7 days

Tonight's show is full of analyzing the big three. After Microsoft showed plenty of games, Sony responded with what gamers wanted - a region free, cheaper console, that won't restrict used games or require an online connection. Meanwhile, Nintendo is hoping people don't notice their lack of stellar first party titles.
We discuss it all - Call in and share your thoughts.
