Your Guitar Talk,” but Nils has gone further--living, embracing and even transcending those
words he once penned since becoming an instrumental sensation in 2005 with “Pacific Coast

What an exciting show is in store for you! Al DeGregoris is back with a new CD and Lisa Engelken is making the trek from West Coast to East! Music from BOTH amazing artists? You better believe it!
Al's background is both wondrous and serene. He gravitated to piano at 4, sax at 6, and had songs and his first band under his belt at 7! By 12, he was a paid pro, insatiable for more learning and playing. A source of pride in his native New York, Al received his Bachelor's in Music Merchandising - AND excelled in law at Hofstra University! Straddling the legal and the musical highways, Al was determined to get involved in EVERY way. So, he found the means to design his own production studio that made a splash. Composing, recording, honing his skills on keys, and producing - well, let's just say that his multiple talents have paid off! Al's third project, "All in Good Time", is based on something poignant that his beloved parents used to say. Help in delivering the message: Nils, Jeff Lorber, Eric Marienthal, Chuck Loeb, and the late Ricky Lawson.
Like Al, this is Lisa's second visit - and she's ready to spread the news! Not only about her big events on the East Coast, but also what ELSE she has up her sleeve. This consummate artist is at full throttle ALWAYS; singing in Portuguese, Spanish, French and Italian - the culture and music of which she has swallowed WHOLE for years - even earning a fellowship to Italy to pursue studies. Her operatic and theatrical training, the sextet and quintet that she co-founded in Washington, D.C., her award-winning performance in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" in San Francisco - did I mention how fascinating Lisa is? The youngest of 13 children from Big Skies, Kansas has made a SPLASH internationally - to RAVE reviews! "Little Warrior" tracks are on tap - join us!

Oliver C. Brown (sometimes credited as Oliver Brown) is an American percussionist, born December 1, 1946, in Berkley, CA. Brown was one of the original members of KC and The Sunshine Band. For four decades, Brown has played with a wide array of artists, from Natalie Cole to Jermane Jackson.
Brown's first big break came in Florida with TK Records as their in house percussionist. He recorded and/or toured with most of their artists. Following this, he became one of the original members of KC and The Sunshine Band as they recorded their 1974 debut album Do It Good, followed by the album KC and The Sunshine Band, which featured their first number one hit on the Billboard charts, "That's The Way (I Like It)."
In the late 1970's early 1980's, Brown was priviledged to record and tour with such artists as Jermaine Jackson, The Whispers, Larry Vann, Billy Preston. Leo Sayer, Al Jarreau, Natalie Cole, Thelma Houston and many more recording artists with Warner Brothers, Capitol Records, and Motown.
Eventually he became the third member of the trio Gravity 180, which he considers to be his greatest artistic achievement to date. Brown has stated that the group has given him the opportunity to express percusission in a way that could be said to be a percussionists' dream. Brown also performs with Nils, a Billboard #1 Smooth Jazz artist and has done so on all of Nils' albums. He continues to perform with Nils and Gravity 180, as well as with other prominent artists from around the world.
Brown was featured in Gravity 180, the 2012 documentary film about the group, written, directed, co-produced, and edited by two-time awarding filmmaker Len Rosen. The film was a featured documentary at the Monaco Film Festival in May 2012, and was granted an Honarary award.

In German Romanticism, the blue flower represents the quest for the impossible, since blue flowers are not supposed to exist. A BLUE FLOWER is a documentary film following the lives of two individuals who are on a quest to cure their disease - one following conventional medicine, the other using alternative treatments. The film will be observational in nature, and will seek to compare and contrast the two journeys through interwoven storylines. This is not a film about science versus quackery, or faith versus reason. This is the story of two journeys towards one hope: that a blue flower exists. Please join me Thursday, May 12th 9PM EST as I welcome Nils Taranger to Stonewall Live!

Tonight: The Nikki Rich Show will be talking to Artist Nils Hasche Vasquez and Jazz Singer Debbie Kirkland. call in 323.580.5749
It has been QUITE a while since speaking with Nils. The last time was on "Cool Jazz Conversations" - when yours truly was co-hosting. That goes back a few years!
A few music projects later - and creativity in full bloom - this amazing guitarist/producer/author/teacher is back with a FAN. Hah! And we'll talk about the next step in The Incredible Journey of Nils Jiptner.
Munich born but now based in the Los Angeles area, Nils has split his time assisting others to reach their musical potential - and turning out his own work to reflect what drives his passion. Apparently, that passion is catchy: his "Pacific Coast Highway" from 2005 caught the attention of thousands of listeners. One of the songs in contemporary Jazz history that has garnered the MOST listens! "What The Funk" stirred huge interest, too, as a follow-up. What we'll hear during this interview, though, are tracks from "City Groove" - released late last year. Intriguing music here...Nils is full of surprises. Both extroverted with dance and beats - and introverted with subject matter ("Soul 2 Soul" and "The Alchemist"), he is categorized as Smooth Jazz - but you and I both know that this R &B/Electronica/Pop-infused rebel is way beyond that box.
Hence, the reason for get-together! Let's get the lowdown on what's cooking for this Groove Meister. 2014 is almost here and Nils loves new beginnings. He also loves continuing what was started - and his exceptional career is the fabulous stereotype of "Keeping a good thing ROLLING!" You ask George Clinton and The Temptations how Nils helped THEM :) And there are so many more who'd like to have our guest in their camp - he's known for dusting off jewels and making them shine. One listen to his OWN music and you know!
