Forged in Heartbreak: Narcissist The Movie

    in Movies

Producer/Writer/Director Eric Casaccio says the root of of what became the multi-award winning film Narcissist is a short-lived romantic connection between two men which ended painfully. Gay Celluoid writes, "Casaccio and to his credit has gone out of his way to shine the spotlight on one man's journey to deal with the emotional fallout following his painful relationship with a man with narcissistic personality disorder."

Narcissist is the story of a kind soul (Evan) who attracts a dark knight (Rob) into his life. It's almost as it's meant to be until Rob goes from a charming man to a manipulative individual who suddenly pulls the carpet out from under Evan, smashing his heart into a million pieces.  Evan's post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) ends up taking him to a place of truth while Rob spirals into his own midlife crisis.

How much of this riveting film is true to life?  Nicholas Snow finds out in this episode of Nicholas Snow Live.

Beyond Amazon Prime: "Transparent" in Real Life

    in Current Events

Alana Sholar and Bobbie Thompson are a married couple.  That in itself isn’t very unique, however, Alana is a male-to-female transwoman, Bobbie is her supportive cis-gender spouse, and they live in central Kentucky which does make their story very unique.  Bobbie knew Sholar as a male for approximately 25 years, and they even shared an intimate relationship in the mid-1990’s.  Nearly a decade passed when Bobbie saw Sholar again in late 2006, only this time ‘he’ was a ‘she.’  Bobbie was ‘freaked-out’ and told Sholar she didn’t want to have anything to do with her.  Two years later they were married.

Alana is the author of “Hung in the Middle: A Journey of Gender Discovery,” and Bobbie tells ‘her side of their story’ in her memoir entitled, “My HUSBAND Looks Better in Lingerie Than I Do … DAMN IT,” which explains how she went from ‘freaked-out’ to ‘saying I do’ and much more.
Today they still live in the same small Kentucky town where Sholar grew up as a male.  They have a blended family of three children, four grandchildren, and two dogs.

Gay, Spiritual & Religious: Author Jake Knight's Take

    in Religion

Jake Knight knows about what he speaks. As this episode goes live, he’s 50 years old, and has been out (as a gay man) since age 27. He lived in the Castro in San Francisco for eighteen years. He learned transcendental meditation as a child, studied post-Civil War American religious thought at the University of Virginia, and has been a student of the collective spirits (known as Abraham) of Abraham-Hicks. He’s spiritual. Jake has also read the whole Bible and believes in Jesus. Many would call that religious.

Jake has found a way to understand all three of these understandings of life, and sees them as perspectives of the same truth: that every person adds to the world, and the opportunity we all have is to add more. As we each individually wish.  It's a tall order so let's hear what he has to say!

Jake’s the author of two books, both currently available on Kindle: 7 ways to think and feel better and Deciding What You Want.

The LGBTQ Spiritual Summit: Rev. Jerry Troyer

    in LGBT

Rev. Jerry Troyer is the founder of the LGBTQ Spiritual Summit.  He asks, "With more and more spiritual organizations accepting members of the LGBTQ community, are we ready to reconnect with our spiritual side?  And do we need to heal our relationship with our higher self (God, Spirit, the Universe, our Higher Power)?"

A native of San Diego County, Rev. Jerry Troyer holds a Masters Degree in Religious Studies from Emerson Theological Institute.  He has been senior minister of Joyful Living Spiritual Center in San Diego since 2005. Growing up in a very conservative Lutheran church required Rev. Jerry to admit, accept and embrace the truth of who he is as a gay man, which, along with his journey though a family member’s substance abuse, is the foundation for his book, Coming Out to Ourselves...Admitting, Accepting and Embracing Who We Truly Are.
