SORT BY Relevancy
Well we will be doing a very Nicaragua based show tonight. First we will be speaking with one of our great friends - Enrique Sanchez owner of 1502 Cigars. Second Mike just got home from his trip to Nicaragua and visiting and photographing various factorys in Nicaragua.
We will speak with Enrique about his newest cigar as well as what is on the horizon for 1502.
Heather Blue van Doorninck, who goes by Blue of Rancho el Chilamate joins Travel the World to talk about her ranch that provides luxury in the country accomodations and the ability to saddle up and ride out to the same beach where they filmed Survivor Nicaragua - an absolutely beautiful ride to a coast line unique in all the world.
Nicaragua is a a wonderful travel destination, a reasonable ride from the United States and then a journey that at times seems as if you are time traveling. Heather will help us to explore not only Rancho Chilamate but also the "golden triangle" of Nicaragua travel - San Juan Del Sur, Ometepe Island and the colonial town of Granada that at time seems stopped in time.
Join hosts Jacquie Kubin and Robert Taylor, with their guest Blue, and travel South to Nicaragua.

(a US based registered non-profit/NGO)
Hosts Andrea Miller and Rev. Terence Dicks are joined by Mississippi activist Kelly Jacobs. Topic of conversation is legalization of marijuana, release of non-violent drug offenders and expungement of records.
Kelly Jacobs, 56, is a community organizer/activist and a 21 year resident of Hernando, Mississippi, who has registered voters, rescued injured or orphaned wildlife, helped candidates canvass, keeps honeybees, taught free after school world geography & chess to children, represented Mississippi at the last 3 DNC Conventions as an elected delegate, and protested the warS. Kelly has lived in California, New Mexico, Colombia, Nevada, Nicaragua, Hawaii, Brazil and Germany before moving to Mississippi with her wonderful husband and 2 sons.
Currently Kelly is the author and sponsor of Mississippi's state wide Ballot Initiative 48, which asks Mississippians if they want to amend the State Constitution so that Marijuana is regulated like alcohol and the Governor is required to pardon non violent cannabis crimes.
The MS SOS issued the #Bi48 petition and it has one year (until 12/29/15) to collect 21,443 certified signatures only from registered voters of Mississippi, in 5 different areas. If even one area fails to collect that minimum number of certified signatures, the entire initiative fails. The deadline for all ballot initiatives to get onto the 2016 ballot is October 2, 2015, if #Bi48 needs more time (only until 12/29/15 deadline) to collect all of the certified signatures, it can get onto the 2017 ballot. Currently 9,205 signatures have been certified, an additional 6,126 signatures were rejected by the MS Circuit Clerks. More volunteers, publicity and of course donations are needed.
THE PETITION CAN BE DOWNLOADED AT www.yesonproposition48.org
Alyssa Thomas attended her first classes on International Entrepreneurship where she learned and become involved with Kiva.
Alyssa’s curiosity inspired her to delve deeper into the industry of microfinance. While attending Quinnipiac University, she participated in a trip to Leon, Nicaragua where she was responsible for dispersing microloans and able to put the theories she had learned into practice. She also had the opportunity to host Muhammed Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize Winner and Father of Microfinance, at her university where he inspired her to apply for a Kiva fellowship after graduation.
Alyssa first served as a Kiva Fellow in Richmond, VA working on the Kiva Zip program. She moved to Philadelphia to serve as a Kiva Fellow with the City's Department of Commerce, and has transitioned into her current role as Manager of Kiva Zip Philadelphia.

Meet Today's Guests
Mary Jo Hadler
Mary Jo grew up in small town Iowa, surrounded by the state’s lively political climate. She turned her interest in this area into a BA in Political Science at the University of Northern Iowa, where she had the chance to intern with the Embassy of Mexico in Washington DC and travel to Nicaragua for a service learning class. There she visited an MFI and some of its borrowers, opening her eyes to the world of microfinance and the many benefits it can provide to borrowers, their families, and their communities.
Mary Jo later received an MSc in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and interned with the National Education Trust while in London. Combining her love of education and international politics, she returned to the University of Northern Iowa to teach political science courses. She has enjoyed sharing her experiences and helping students understand and think critically about pressing world issues, something she hopes to continue and build upon through this fellowship and an eventual PhD. Mary Jo looks forward to contributing to Kiva Zip’s ongoing work in Washington DC and helping educate others about microfinance.
