SPECIAL EDITION: Purpose for Women focuses on United Nations in Columbus
Guests: Melissa Lenz & Chasity
Our mission statement:
The United Nations Association of Columbus is committed to educating, inspiring, and mobilizing Ohioans to support the vital work of the United Nations, for we believe that the UN offers the best means to achieving peace and security for all humans. We practice this mission through several programs. We strive to make a difference through Model UN programs, where students can actively engage in the international system, learn and experience the UN system, and develop valuable leadership skills. We aim to think globally and act locally by organizing events that highlight the relevance of the UN system in Ohio as well as the key role that Ohio plays in that system as well. We advocate for strong U.S. leadership in the UN so that the international organization can operate to its fullest potential. We operate under the mantra “More Than Just Me,” for we understand that our purpose is about more than just the success of our singular organization but about the network of supporters who will make a positive impact on this world. We also understand that it will take more than just us to accomplish the lofty goals of the UN, so we collaborate with several Columbus organizations to make our vision a reality.

When we were children, most of us had parents who said, "Tell Aunt Suzy thank you for the gift." We would then dutifully go to Aunt Suzy, give her a hug and tell her "thank you." Sometimes, mom sat us down and made us write a card instead. Somewhere, somehow, many of us have that process instilled in our brains for some things, but we forget about it for others. Do you remember to thank those who have made a difference in your life? Do you remember to thank the bagger at the grocery store, or do you expect that since it is their job, nothing needs to be said?
November is a time when we are reminded to be thankful. On Purpose Talk Radio on Monday, Nov. 17, noon PT/3 p.m. ET/9 p.m. UK, we will talk about an attitude of gratitude and how we can remember to make it a focus throughout the year. You, the listener, will be challenged a bit to think of the many people who have changed your life through the years and think of ways to thank them. Then you will be taken on a journey of guided meditation to remember a few more.

Muddling through the busyness of the holidays and maintaining "normal" day-to-day life during the holidays can be difficult for many people. Family responsibilities, work schedules, entertainment adventures all add to the stress caused by this time of year. Being able to do it all from a wheelchair makes it even more complicated. Purpose Talk Radio guest for Nov. 24, noon PDT/3 p.m. EDT/9 p.m. UK, Patricia Sobczyk is one person who has lived all of these pieces of her life since she was 18 years old.
At 18 years of age she was a stay-at-home mother of one child when she contracted Polio. Polio left her with needing to use a wheelchair and needing to learn how to adapt to an entirely new way of life. This was 1972, long before the Americans with Disabilities Act was passed. Being the first case of Polio in Wisconsin in 10 years, and requiring a number of services of The United Way, Pat served on the United Way’s Speaker’s Bureau and spoke at 22 different companies in Milwaukee, appeared in numerous newspaper ads, articles and informational brochures and did local media interviews. Since then she has raised three boys, held several jobs, continued to speak out for as an advocate for "disabled" people and live her life of purpose, while enjoying the holidays and every other day of life.
Each Monday live at 12 noon PT/3 pm ET/8 pm UK, or archived thereafter, our host, Cindy Freeman, and her guests bring insights and ideas to help you grow in your Soul path. Check out more information at Purpose Talk Radio and join the conversations on Facebook at Purpose Talk Radio Conversations.
