    Sex Trafficking in the US

    in Parents

Today Annie Abram and her guest, David Trotter, will discuss sex trafficking in the US. There are "100,000 children in the sex trade in the United States each year. In the US, sex trafficking commonly occurs in online escort services, residential brothels, brothels disguised as massage businesses or spas, and in street prostitution. Victims are frequently lured by false promises of a lucrative job, stability, education, or a loving relationship. In the U.S., victims can be men or women, adults or children, foreign nationals or U.S. citizens. While they share the trait of vulnerability, victims have diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, varied levels of education, and may be documented or undocumented." (http://www.polarisproject.org/human-trafficking/overview)

David Trotter is filmmaker, author, and speaker with a passion to help people take action on important social justice issues in our world. He is the Co-executive Producer and Co-director on two documentaries - MOTHER INDIA: Life Through the Eyes of the Orphan (www.motherindiafilm.com) as well as IN PLAIN SIGHT: Stories of Hope and Freedom (www.inplainsightfilm.com). He is the author of multiple books including the recently released Start Something to End Trafficking. He has been married to Laura for over 20 years, and they live with their two children in Newport Beach, California.

Super Bowl & Sex Trafficking is Not Hurt By the Economy

    in Politics

In the 1st hour, Nita Belles leads the group In Our Backyard that does anti-trafficking work each year at Super Bowl. Apparently the sex trafficking industry in the US has not been hurt by the economy. Think this isn't happening near you? Think again! It shouldn't be happening anywhere in the US, but it is. So what can you do to help stop it? Listen to find out...

What's on today's show... well, you'll just have to tune in to hear. It's always current events and hot topics, with some crazy news stories thrown in for good measure! You'll be entertained and informed.

Have you had your healthy dose of reality lately?

There are always at least two sides to every story. Have you ever wondered how someone, who saw the same thing you did, walked away telling a vastly different story? Which version was correct? Which one was the REAL story? Actually, both are! It’s just a matter of perspective.

Joe takes the issues… especially the controversial issues (politics, prejudice, religion, illegal immigration)… and brings in people from different sides to share their viewpoint. This is definitely not a fluff piece. And while no one is attacked, the questions are hard-hitting.

But the conversation is always respectful and you’re sure to learn something new, even if you don’t agree!

If you’ve always wondered how the “other side” thinks and how they’ve arrived at their “stand”, then this is the show for you!

It’s not the right side, it’s not the wrong side, but the REAL side of the issues!

Human Trafficking - A Survivors Story - Christine McDonald

    in Motivation

Christine McDonald is an internationally recognized author and speaker on the social injustices facing underserved populations today.  As a survivor of human trafficking, homelessness, and addiction, Christine- now blind as a result of a disease that forced her to choose between her unborn child and her eyesight- is on a mission to bring justice and awareness to the forefront of social change through education and unconditional love.

Christine began life in a small town in Oklahoma, in a very dark and painful household. She felt safest using her own survival skills to live on the streets and ran away for the last time when she was just 15.  This began her 17 year journey of homelessness, which comprised of being sex trafficked, drug addiction, prostitution, 103 arrests and 7 prison stints.  Finally ready for a better life and barely able to read or write, Christine began a new journey of exiting the life of the streets, only to be challenged again.

Completely blind and eternally vigilant, today Christine uses her life experience and education to work as an advocate for trafficking victims, the homeless, recovering addicts, ex-offenders and disabled populations.  Currently living in St Louis, Missouri, Christine is a proud mom of her 7 year old son and practices a loving open adoption with her daughter’s adoptive parents in nearby Kirkwood.  Christine is the author of Cry Purple: One Woman’s Journey through Homelessness, Crack Addiction and Prison to Blindness, Motherhood and Happiness and is the founder of www.ChristinesVision.org.  She has also been featured locally and nationally on various media outlets, including NBC, CBS, FOX and NPR and sits on multiple local, state-wide and international level boards and committees.
