Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is driven by two major needs: 1) to feel safe, 2) to be in control. While survivors seek ways to manage their experience of the world they often find that controlling themselves offers immediate sensations of relief. It's no surprise that eating -- an essential survival behavior -- can lead to distorted coping mechanisms in the PTSD lifestyle.
PTSD has proven to be a main predictor in eating disorders. In fact, 66% of all eating disorder patients have trauma in their history. Today, in honor of National Eating Disorder Awareness week Lauren Lohse (Navigator Program Manager) and Lauren Smolar (Helpline Manager) of National Eating Disorders Association join the show to discuss eating disorder symptoms, plus how to heal.
Michele Rosenthal is a popular keynote speaker, award-winning author and post-trauma coach. Her shows combine scientific research, cutting-edge guests and personal stories that highlight the challenges and successes of deliberately deciding to change the direction of your life. Teen hosts Sam, Cady, Sarah and Jess discuss eating disorders and good nutrition including eating for health, body positivity, and ways to support someone who is struggling with an eating disorder. Cady shares her personal experience with eating disorders and provides valuable information on getting help and maintaining recovery.

Our culture today has become obsessed with diets. Instead of that word simply meaning, "that which you eat", it has become a word that implies deprivation, starving, restriction, and sacrifice. There are so many fads and theories about how to achieve that perfect body, (whether realistic or not), and yet more and more people are suffering with allergies, digestive disturbance, and more serious conditions like cancer, celiac, and Crohn's Disease, as well as eating disorders such as anorexia, bulemia, pica, and Pradar Willi Syndrome. Despite the media and the quest for the perfect figure, the obesity epidemic continues and we know all too well (hopefully) how this condition can contribute to heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, not to mention other conditions like arthritis that are complicated by increasing weight.
Last time, we discussed how Ayurveda views food as medicine and how to incorporate Ayurvedic principles to achieve perfect weight and balance. Today Nick and Joanna will be discussing how hypnosis can help manage and heal the myriad of eating disorders that seem to affect us today.
Is it a matter of willpower, or are we powerless to make the changes we need to make to live a happier, healthier life where we can live longer and prevent disease before it starts?
Whether it's a matter of a few pounds you would like to lose, or a more serious problem of obesity and/or a related illness, hypnosis can help, along with a sensible diet and lifestyle that decreases stress, and brings some ease and sanity to this epidemic problem.

Join our original "Pelvic Messenger" Elisabeth Oas, as she interviews Dr. Mario Castellano of Phoenix Arizona. He is here to discuss some of the underlying causes of the biggest diagnoses chronic pelvic pain patients deal with. While many of us, have IC, Endo, Pudendal Neuralgia and more...we also often might have other diagnoses going on we are unaware of, that are either mimicking these bigger players or making them worse. In either case treating these other diagnoses is important to feeling better!! I think we can all agree that being able to recognize the subtle differences in our pelvic pain can be hard, especially when everything is hurting at once. Tune into this show to help yourself with gaining the insight on how to do this!!
Dr. Castellanos expertise includes pudendal neuralgia, pelvic congestion syndrome, pelvic floor muscle spasms, interstitial cystitis, and pain related to vaginal mesh procedures. He has special skills in pudendal nerve decompression surgery, ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks, and Botox trigger point injections. He is also a fellowship trained minimally invasive gynecologic surgeon for the treatment of complex pelvic pathology and pelvic pain.
He has presented at national congregations and published on various topics related to chronic pelvic pain. He is an active member of the AAGL and the International Pelvic Pain Society. It was his research and work presented at the 2014 IPPS annual conference, that inspired us to have him on the show! Discussing these very complicated and critical topics can make a world of difference for the overall well being for the patient living with pelvic pain.
Tonight these other stories will be discussed. Worst Case Scenario: Taking Back Your Home From Intruders, FEMA Will Deny Funds to States Without Global Warming Plans, Here’s A Street Fight Secret To Crush A 265lb Badass Biker!

Nothing directly affects our health, wellness and longevity more than the water we drink, cook and shower with. We're told it's healthy for us to swallow in a glass of water but then again toothpaste companies are forced to warn us to call a Poison Control Center if we swallow the equivalent dose in toothpaste. ?
