Dr. Tasha Brown and Executive Producer Kareema Ali .  They will interview Chicago Community Activist Carolyn Champion.  Chicago today surpasses New York City and Los Angeles as the Murder Capitol of the U.S.  The murder rate of Chicago is now 60% over this time last year.   Carolyn Champion became a victim of that crime when her 21 year old son Cortez was gunned down in November of last year.  She has since turned her grief into activism by helping  women who are ex-offenders.  The arrest rate of  WOMEN  in Chicago is now up by 92 percent since 1990.  Carolyn Champion founded an organization called S.A.V.E.D, Sisters Achieving Victory, Empowerment and Dominion.  She's giving former female prisoners a second chance at living a normal life.  And she's making significant headway. Those are all the cities where Mothers in Charge are working with mothers who have lost their sons to violence.

    Clemmie Greenlee and Dorothy Johnson both lost their sons to violence. Their deaths pressed them into action creating Nashville Peacemakers and Mothers over Murder or MOMS and Mothers in Charge. These two ladies are making a dent in eradicating the Self Genocide that's occurring in Black families all over the country. The have concrete ideas of how all of us can, and should get involved.

    Mr. Lumumba a prominent lawyer and human rights activist who persuaded voters here to accept a sales tax to fix crumbling roads and dated water and sewer systems,  City officials said Mr. Lumumba died at St. Dominic Hospital. A cause of death was not immediately clear, though the City Council president, Charles Tillman, who was sworn in as acting mayor, said he met Monday with Mr. Lumumba, who had a cold. “He kind of joked around about it,” Mr. Tillman said.
