    THE NATIONAL PHARMACEUTICAL COUNCIL

    in Business

The National Pharmaceutical Council (NPC) is a health policy research organization dedicated to the advancement of good evidence and science, and to fostering an environment in the United States that supports medical innovation.

Founded in 1953 and supported by the nation’s major research-based biopharmaceutical companies, NPC focuses on research development, information dissemination, education and communication of the critical issues of evidence, innovation and the value of medicines for patients. The issues we select for examination and the researchers and academics we partner with position NPC as a uniquely credible and trusted voice in the biopharmaceutical research and health policy communities. Much of our research is published in peer-reviewed journals.

    NPC is working to:

Ensure that sound evidence is recognized by independent experts, considered appropriately by private and public payers, reflected adequately in benefit designs, and incorporated into clinical practice
Demonstrate and promote the contribution of innovative medicines to optimizing health and wellness for patients and the entire health care system through scientific analyses and fact-based communications
Maintain a focus on the issues related to advancing the science and research aspects of the biopharmaceutical industry and preserving and improving an environment supportive of innovation.

Our Board of Directors consists of a representative from each member company. The annual dues paid by our members make up NPC’s core budget, which funds research-based projects, ongoing educational activities and our day-to-day operations. NPC does not engage in lobbying activities.

National Liberty Memorial with Maurice Barboza

    in History

Maurice A. Barboza is the founder and CEO of National Mall Liberty Fund DC, a non-profit authorized by Public Law 112-239 to establish a memorial to African American contributions to liberty during the Revolutionary War. In September 2014, Public Law 113-176 made the National Liberty Memorial eligible for a site in Washington's Monumental Core. He said, "this memorial will remind Americans that it was their vision for America that prevailed."

Mr. Barboza has written opinion pieces and spoken extensively about the 30-year quest to construct the memorial and his aunt's trail-blazing battle in the mid-1980s for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. A 2013 book, "Sacrificing Soldiers on the National Mall," by Kristin Haas, and a recent article in the Washington Post, "After 30 years, a site for memorial," by Tom Jackman, tell the story.

National & International Roundtable Welcomes R.L. Pelshaw

    in Current Events

Bob Pelshaw was a successful Midwestern real estate broker, developer, and consultant specializing in free-standing retail projects for national and regional retailers, as well as private shopping centers, office buildings, multi-family projects, and leadership development. His twenty-five year career included service as a state officer for the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) plus over $600 Million in career transactions. Along the way he also invested in, or consulted for, various other types of businesses including laundromats, a janitorial company, brokerage, convenience stores, grocery stores, retail stores, car wash, a restaurant, barber shops, construction companies, a resort hotel, property management, rental properties, self-storage facilities, a health club, marketing organizations, and others. Pelshaw served numerous non-profit groups including being a Director and Officer for the local Big Brothers Big Sisters Chapter, his church, and most notably as an Associate Trainer for Dr. John C. Maxwell’s global non-profit ministry Equip. Through Equip, Pelshaw has taught leadership globally to thousands. The Great Recession found Pelshaw financially over-extended. Coupled with trusting the wrong people, and some bad business decisions made, Pelshaw suffered a catastrophic loss of a multi-million dollar asset base. In his efforts to stay afloat and “rob Peter to pay Paul” Pelshaw stupidly temporarily misused $135,000 of SBA loan proceeds which caused him to receive a felony and serve a ten-month sentence at Leavenworth Federal Prison Camp. Since serving his time he has focused on providing consulting services, writing, public speaking, and public service. He is also the author of “Raising Up The Champion Within You: David & Goliath Grown-Up Version” and the soon to be released “Time Management is Dead.” Pelshaw is about to be re-married and start a family.
