This week, as Matt and Shawn gear up behind the scenes for some exciting changes ahead, we'll feature our Best of 2014! What an incredible year full of fantastic artists, amazing events and plain old fun times. This show will feature some of YOUR favorite segments, interviews and songs from 2014.
Now, about those changes...
For listeners of Nashville Underground Radio, very little will be changing in terms of listener engagement. We're still going to bring you the best artists, events and news in Music City, only we want to make everything bigger, better and more fun! (Sorry though, we can't make Matt and Shawn any better... you're stuck with them.)
Featuring Christmas music from your favorite #NUartists!
Artists include: Rebecca Roubion, Matt Bednarsky, Kylie Rothfield, Keaton Simons, Annie Bosko, Brett Ryan Stewart, Jamie Meyer, Forte Femme, Jameson Elder and Holley Maher, plus a HUGE artist making their debut on Nashville Underground Radio!
This week was a buzy one for the guys! Matt went to a party for rising country artist Sam Hunt, saw the musical "Once" at the Tennessee Performign Arts Center (TPAC), attended the Buds N' Suds charity event and hit up Musicians Corner. Then he and Shawn checked out the new Adele's Restaurant and went to the Nashville Lifestyles "Style Setters" event!
And this week's #NUartist is Chancellor Warhol! Nashville Underground's first hip hop artist, Chancellor grew up drawn to art, cinema, fashion and a diverse culture all of which helped shape his very own style of music today. Channeling an alternative/electro rap style, his unconventional sound has earned him a place on stages such as Bonnaroo, SXSW, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, Hangout Fest, Life is Beautiful Festival, and Sundance Film Festival.
It's the first show of the #NUyear, and it's a good one! Shawn calls in from the road with Nashville Underground Management's Zeke Duhon, while Matt is back at The Sound Shelter with the team's new act Viral Animal! Plus, they announce the expansion of Nashville Underground Entertainment and the new business venture, Nashville Underground Online!
Viral Animal is a duo and production team made up of Damar “D Powers” Howard and Charles “Rokman” Rhodes, who combine EDM, Hip-Hop and Trap Pop to create ground-breaking music that stimulates a party center in the listener’s brain. With D’s infectious swagger and Rok's brilliant pop sensibilities the team is fierce and unstoppable… much like their name suggests. Viral Animal's art is not just music; it’s a lifestyle brand.
About Nashville Underground Online
Our name has become synonymous with great artists and local culture. The goal of the Nashville Underground brand is simple: to market and promote independent artists and local entrepreneurs. Online branding and marketing (as something our team has always done anyway) was the inevitable next step.
The Nashville Scene released it's annual list "You're So Nashville If..." Matt and Shawn go through many of them and also tease several upcoming events. They are also announcing a new contest!
And this week's #NUartist is Isaac Hayden. Hayden was signed by Sam Brooker to an artist development and publishing deal with Artist Revolution Records in 2013. Sam and Isaac are currently finishing work on Isaac’s debut album featuring cameos from some awesome local and national talent such as The McCrary Sisters, Jeremy Lister, Daniel Ellsworth and Jared Kneale, who is now playing drums for Kacey Musgraves.
From April 16 - 27, Nashville turns from Music City to Movie City as the Nashville Film Festival (NaFF) takes place. In an extended 10-day celebration of film, NaFF is in two locations for the first time: Regal Green Hills Stadium 16 with 200 competition film, educational presentations and parties, and downtown at Nissan Multicultural Village, Walk of Fame Park with free outdoor films nightly and Happy Hour Shorts at Festival Pub.
Matt and Shawn will give some movie reviews of the films they screened, and speak to several artists (both actors and musicians) involved in various projects including Blake Rayne, Linds Edwards, Ashley Shelton and more!
This week, the guys recap Thanksgiving and discuss more holiday plans, plus news, upcoming events and more!
And this week's #NUartist is EZA! EZA, (pronounced Eh-Za) is 21-year old Ellery Bonham, an exceptional vocalist and musician who writes her music primarily using vocal loops and synthesizers. The colors and patterns she’s able to see while writing have translated into her moody, vibrant and magnetic sound. Her first EP Means of Escape was released in July 26, 2014.
in Real Estate
Too many times in my experience I have seen homeowners make terrible mistakes in picking a listing agent to sell their Nashville home. In this episode, I am going to share some lessons I have learned as a Real Estate Broker that every homeowner should be doing before they make a decision on a listing agent
This week, Matt and Shawn talk about the closing of historic venue 12th and Porter, a new bill that will make drinking in cars illegal (yes, ILlegal), Slide The City and more! They also talk about upcoming events they will be involved in including Lights, Camera, Fashion and CRS. Plus, this week's featured artist is Seryn!
The blend of voices and instrumentation heard throughout Seryn’s first two albums creates a progressive-folk sound that isn’t easily defined, but still accessible to casual listeners. What may first appear as straight folk songs later transcends into a cascading wall of sound.
A tree fell on Matt's house. He and Shawn discuss that, plus Zeke Duhon and Kylie Rothfield at ALoft Hotel, the shows they missed out on, Emblem 3 and more! They also feature an interview and an amazing performance by Striking Matches and a hilarious interview with local improv group LOLNashville!
Striking Matches, made up of Sarah Zimmermann and Justin Davis, came to Nashville simply to play music. In December 2012, Striking Matches made their debut on the Grand Ole Opry where they have subsequently played more than twenty times. The duo has had six songs featured on ABC’s hit show Nashville. They became the first artist signed to the newly launched I.R.S. Records Nashville with their debut full length effort produced by T-Bone Burnett and Buddy Miller to be released in 2014.
LOL Nashville is a short and long-form improv comedy troupe. Every part of every show is unscripted and is made up on the spot with the help of suggestions from the audience. Every improv show they have performed has been sold out, which meant the troupe has had to secure a large performance space for the rest of the year.
FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, Matt and Shawn break a brand new artist on the show! Laura McCormick's first single, her first album, her first radio interview... right here on Nashville Underground Radio, as we WORLD PREMIERE her song "Feel The Fire!"
With a voice comparable to that of Bonnie Raitt, Ann Wilson of Heart, and Linda Ronstadt, McCormick mixes power vocals with gut wrenching songwriting, blending her folk and country roots with her classic rock upbringing. After working as an ICU nurse for the past six years, Laura is now following her dreams into music, and brings a fierce set of pipes with her debut album Box Full of Trouble.
This week Matt and Shawn also discuss Lollapalooza, American Idol, birthday celebrations and more!
