The Nashville Scene released it's annual list "You're So Nashville If..." Matt and Shawn go through many of them and also tease several upcoming events. They are also announcing a new contest!
And this week's #NUartist is Isaac Hayden. Hayden was signed by Sam Brooker to an artist development and publishing deal with Artist Revolution Records in 2013. Sam and Isaac are currently finishing work on Isaac’s debut album featuring cameos from some awesome local and national talent such as The McCrary Sisters, Jeremy Lister, Daniel Ellsworth and Jared Kneale, who is now playing drums for Kacey Musgraves.
From April 16 - 27, Nashville turns from Music City to Movie City as the Nashville Film Festival (NaFF) takes place. In an extended 10-day celebration of film, NaFF is in two locations for the first time: Regal Green Hills Stadium 16 with 200 competition film, educational presentations and parties, and downtown at Nissan Multicultural Village, Walk of Fame Park with free outdoor films nightly and Happy Hour Shorts at Festival Pub.
Matt and Shawn will give some movie reviews of the films they screened, and speak to several artists (both actors and musicians) involved in various projects including Blake Rayne, Linds Edwards, Ashley Shelton and more!
in Real Estate
Too many times in my experience I have seen homeowners make terrible mistakes in picking a listing agent to sell their Nashville home. In this episode, I am going to share some lessons I have learned as a Real Estate Broker that every homeowner should be doing before they make a decision on a listing agent
On April 7 2013, Matt Williams and Shawn Carnes began broadcasting Nashville Underground Radio with the intention of bringing the real Nashville to the rest of the world - especially its ecclectic music scene. One year later, the show that started on one cell phone in a living room is becoming a solidified brand name in the Nashville community.
And we couldn't do it without the artists we've featured each week. That's why, one year later, we are celebrating the music LIVE at The Sound Shelter studio with performances by: Jamie Meyer, Ella Mae Bowen, Matt Giraud, Ben Sturgell, Erika Cole, Them Vibes, Rebecca Roubion, Zeke Duhon, Kayla Nettles, and Matt Bednarsky, with special appearances by Lindsay Ell, Elle Maze, Timothy James Bowen and Kylie Rothfield!
Plus, the guys have a special announcement!
A tree fell on Matt's house. He and Shawn discuss that, plus Zeke Duhon and Kylie Rothfield at ALoft Hotel, the shows they missed out on, Emblem 3 and more! They also feature an interview and an amazing performance by Striking Matches and a hilarious interview with local improv group LOLNashville!
Striking Matches, made up of Sarah Zimmermann and Justin Davis, came to Nashville simply to play music. In December 2012, Striking Matches made their debut on the Grand Ole Opry where they have subsequently played more than twenty times. The duo has had six songs featured on ABC’s hit show Nashville. They became the first artist signed to the newly launched I.R.S. Records Nashville with their debut full length effort produced by T-Bone Burnett and Buddy Miller to be released in 2014.
LOL Nashville is a short and long-form improv comedy troupe. Every part of every show is unscripted and is made up on the spot with the help of suggestions from the audience. Every improv show they have performed has been sold out, which meant the troupe has had to secure a large performance space for the rest of the year.
Coming up in June: #NUartist Zeke Duhon is performing at The Stone Fox on the 3rd at 8pm and Musicians Corner on the 7th at 2pm. And today's guest is Nashville Underground Management's Kylie Rothfield, who will be performing at Nashville Pride on the 14th at noon, The Bluebird Cafe on June 22 at 6pm AND the Instruments of Joy Benefit on the 29th!
Crafting songs that combine elements of soul, blues and pop, Kylie Rothfield’s music is unique, honest, and universally appealing. Although her vocal ability is undeniable, she is also an accomplished self-taught guitarist, being able to support her captivating live stage show as a solo acoustic performer or with a full band. Her self-released debut EP “Rag Doll” – produced by Russ Pahl and set for release April 13th - is truly a testament to her artistry.
Ben Sturgell is a singer/songwriter/producer that resides in Nashville and L.A. Ben love’s to create, and write music that tells the story of his life, and others around him. This week we speak to him about his art, new music and the difference between living in LA and Nashville.
Holley Maher is an artist. In her Nashville home, she surrounds herself with paintbrushes, self-authored and illustrated storybooks and novels, odd collections of instruments, and stacks of notebooks full of sketches, ideas, and songs in the making. Her vivid artistic vision bleeds into the studio and her songs, manifesting in beautifully textured vocal harmonies and sweeping melodies that seem to pull you in and carry you away.
For her third EP project entitled “Euphorics,” Holley teamed up with veteran Nashville-based producer Chris Grainger (Kopecky Family Band, Wilco, Sixpence None The Richer, Five Knives, Cold Stares, Switchfoot) and electro-pop singer/songwriter Kyle Andrews. The collaboration was a “creative rush,” as Maher calls it, resulting in a collection of upbeat songs with Holley’s familiar whimsical flair, but with a pulsating electro-pop undercurrent that makes not dancing nearly impossible;
Please join us as we chat with her and talk about anything and everything Nashville!
It's the first show of 2014! This week, no featured artist, just Matt and Shawn recapping the past year and gearing up for the new year.
They also feature the best musical moments of 2013, including the first song ever played on the show, the first song debuted on the show, the first live in-studio performance and more!
Matt and Shawn are officially on break for the holidays; however, Matt had the opportunity to catch up with yet another American Idol alum before he left! In leu of a full-length show, please enjoy his interview with Matt Giraud!
Matt is a singer/songwriter from Kalamazoo, Michigan who achieved national recognition and acclaim for his performances on American Idol. As a favorite of the judges, he was the first ever recipient of the judges’ save, Matt went on to finish 5th on Season 8 of American Idol and is currently in the studio working on an EP to release in December 2013 with plans to release a full-length in 2014.
