SISTER CLARA MOHAMMED AND THE ROLE OTHER GREAT AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSLIM WOMEN.
Clara Muhammad November 2, 1899 – August 12, 1972, aka Clara Poole, was born Clara Evans in Macon, Georgia.
She was the first wife of Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad. They married in Georgia in 1917, before he changed his name from Elijah Poole. Between 1917 and 1939, Elijah and Clara Muhammad had eight children: six boys and two girls, including Warith Deen Muhammad.
Known as the First Lady of the Nation of Islam, Muhammad is credited with introducing her husband to the teachings of Nation of Islam founder W.D. Fard. She guided the organization during her husband's absence from 1935 to 1946 as he fled death threats from rival temple leaders and was then incarcerated for sedition during World War II.
In the NOIs earliest days she helped establish and run the University of Islam and Muslim Girls Training schools, which provided education for NOI members' children, considered one of the nation's early versions of religious homeschooling. Children's attendance at the schools was considered truancy and resulted in prosecutions and violent confrontations between Temple members and police in Detroit, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois.
Clara Muhammad died on August 12, 1972 after a long bout with stomach cancer. Her son, Warith Deen Mohammed, who assumed leadership of the Nation of Islam in 1975, renamed the University of Islam schools the Sister Clara Muhammad Schools in her honor. There are now roughly 75 Clara Muhammad Schools across the country.

Welcome to Women Making Sense of Sex (and everything else) at 60! In this episode, join my co-host Iris Bieri and in a lively conversation about the changes that we women face after menopause and as we enter into our 60's. What makes this time unique for us?
Our bodies are changing radically and we are no longer oriented towards having children and being in relationship. We are also facing the loss of our roles as mothers, sexual partners (for some of us) wives, and for some of us we are facing retirement and or the loss of our careers. We are entering into a time when many things that we have hooked our identity on to are changing and we are faced with "now what?" and "who am I?".
Many of us feel alone in this and isolated. That is why we're talking about this! So, join us and other women in this candid open conversation about what goes on beneath the surface and feel connected to the rhythme of your natural blueprint. Nothing is wrong with you! It is just time to step fully into your changes and embrace your authenticity.
This show is also great for you younger women wondering what you have to look forward to as you move through into maturity!

Welcome to the "Women of Golf Show!"
This is the first show of 2015! Join Cindy & I this week as we talk to Susan Fornoff about her business GottaGoGolf Magazine and her book "Confessions Of A Golf Slut".
Plus! Susan answers the question. "Is gender bias still present in today's golf media"?
Here's a little about Susan Fornoff: Founder and Editor-in-Chief of GottaGoGolf Magazine and Author of “Confessions Of A Golf Slut”.
Susan Fornoff, a trailblazing newspaper journalist and author, founded the publishing and consulting firm GottaGoGolf in 2010. She has been golf writer for the San Francisco Examiner and Chronicle, and was most recently Travel Editor of the Chronicle. Her golf and travel articles have been widely published in magazines, and in 2001 she co-authored the book Northern California Golf Getaways with Cori (Kenicer) Brett. She is an advocate for making golf courses more inviting to women, and in October of 2010 launched GottaGoGolf Magazine, the online magazine for women who love the game — though certainly not excluding ladies, girls, gals and maybe even a few guys. Her new memoir, Confessions of a Golf Slut, is the book she hopes will make more women want to play the game.
