Trading Fours Encore: a Tribute to Albert Murray

    in Education

In 1970 Albert Murray proclaimed, US culture was "incontestably mulatto." In 1973, Murray wrote about "The Dynamics of Heroic Action" and in 1974, with the introduction of Scooter (the protagonist of Train Whistle Guitar), Murray gave readers the blues-based adventures of a brown-faced hero. In August 2013, Albert Murray joined the celestial ensemble. On today's Trading Fours, former Murray students: Paul Devlin, Roberta Maguire, Greg Thomas, Lauren Walsh and Jackie Modeste re-member Murray and his legacy. Join us for an historic gathering of Murrayites and "Get in on the rhythm."

Karen Anna Vogel, Murray Pura & Much More!

    in Books

About Karen Anna Vogel:A trusted English friend among many Amish in Western PA, and NY, I want to share with you about these wonderful people I admire. Amish Knitting Circle was birthed when Trestle Press asked Suzanne Woods Fisher to write an Amish serial, and she referred them to me. Thank you Suzanne! I write full-length novels and short story serials. I hope readers will learn a lot about Amish culture and traditions, and realize you don't have to be Amish to live a simple life. In my Amish Knitting Circle you'll follow the lives of 6 women in a knitting circle who are knitting for charity and helping each other through life's challenges, the Amish way. An authentic Amish recipe is at the end of each edition. Knit Together: An Amish Knitting Novel, is a complete book. Granny Weaver starts a knitting circle that's half Amish and half not. As they meet and knit and talk, they end up unifying the town made of two different cultures: Amish and English.

    Operation Snuggle Up

    in Lifestyle

Monday December 15, 2014  6:30 PM EST  5:30 PM CST  4:30 PM MST  3:30 PM PST

Haley Van Scoyoc of St Petersburg, Florida has Operation Snuggle Up off the ground.  Tune in and hear all aobut it.  It caught our interest, as it is very much like our own Project Warm Up.  It is winter.  It is cold.  And there are still a large number of working people that must sleep outdoors because their income simply isn't enough.  There is also another population that has no income that is in even worse shape.  Offering warmth--blankets, coats, hats, gloves, etc won't solve all their problems... but it is definitely a great outreach that can lead to them getting screened for benefits and employment, thus getting off the streets for good.
