    MODESTO BEE SPONSORS WATER SUMMIT

    in News

    Modesto Bee sponsors water Summit

July 15, 2015   7-9 at the Gallo center

The forum will be moderated by founder and former president of the Great Valley Center and former Mayor of  Modesto, Carol Whiteside.

Whiteside left the great Valley Center when Bob Gallo discontinued financing the venture.

As Mayor of Modesto. she is known for “Curtains up 88” that gave us the convention center and closed 10 Street which created a campus for the then First Baptist Church and cut off downtown Modesto.

Whitesides credits are many. She was paid $15,000 with M ID money to lobby for the sale of water to San Francisco.

It would be more informative, if the Bee had Carol Whiteside as a panelist, rather than the moderator.

The five panelists are Jeff Cowan, Randy Fiorini, Sarge Green, Felicia Marcus, and Assemblywoman Kristen Olsen.

The panel will engage in a conversation on valley water.

The panel will bring their facts, viewpoints, and opinions to the discussion.

In the interest of transparency and qualifications, each panelist should be asked if they went to the microphone during M ID meetings to oppose the sale of our water to San Francisco.

We already know that the moderator was paid to lobby for the sale.

We should thank the editors of the Modesto Bee Ken Riddick, Joseph Kieta, and Mike Dunbar.

Modesto Chamber of Commerce uses economic discrimination for political power

    in News

The Modesto Chamber of Commerce has used economic discrimination for political power.

It wasn’t long ago that there was a debate about the role of the Chamber of Commerce in Modesto.

There were those who felt that the chamber should certainly involve itself in any issue that would bring business development to the city, but that it should stay clear of endorsing candidates.

With the arrival of land-use attorney George Petrulakis and political consultant, the issue was settled that the chamber should be a political organization9

MODESTO AND COUNTY DAMAGED REPUTATION NOT NECESSARY

    in News

District Attorney’s office chief prosecutor, Dave Harris and investigator, Steve Jacobson are facing contempt charges.

The charges were filed because of a declaration by Judge Scott Steffen, who presided over the AJ Pontillo bail bonds trial.

Steffen revealed that the jury in that trial was tampered with, and a less publicized charge is that Harris withheld exculpatory evidence in order to convict Mr. Pontillo, who was facing four life sentences.

It is debatable which charge is more serious.

Tampering with the jury violates the foundation of our judicial system.

Withholding evidence to put an innocent man in jail for life violates our Constitution.

Pontillo was exonerated by the jury but after an eight year investigation by Sheriff Adam Christianson and a six-month trial by Dave Harris, he is rebuilding a life that was destroyed .

In the meantime, the county is paying high-priced attorneys to minimize the damage to Harris and Jacobson.

The charges could be filed as felonies, but Dist. Atty. Birgit Fladager is not going to file charges against her own staff.

The County filed an appeal, and the appellate court has suspended the contempt trial for further review.

Although defense attorney Frank Carson also filed a complaint with the court, whether or not he can participate as a prosecutor has become a distraction created by the County to further delay the proceedings and limit the damage to the District Attorney’s Office.

Although the court has suspended the trial,  DA Fladager has not suspended her employees, chief deputy Dist. Atty. Dave Harris and DA investigator Steve Jacobson, or charge them with felonies.
