This Podcast: Preparing to Travel Part 2 Caregiving is one of the greatest challenges and opportunities most of us experience in a lifetime.
Each week Paula Falk moderates a support group of caregivers dealing with the challenges of Alzheimer's. She's helped to provide guidance and a constant reminder to each member they're not alone, that it's okay to feel frustrated, sad, angry, but to not lose sight of their own health and mental wellness.
Jane Johnson is back this episode with Part 2 of tips to help caregivers through the challenges of travel. Jane is a volunteer facilitator for the caregivers support group and works closely with Paula. She has a Masters Degree in social work and from her own personal experience with her husband's Alzheimer's understands the importance of caregivers developing a strong coping mechanism.
Many members of this support group have become good friends and provide a support network. Now, we want to share what we've learned in a series of short podcasts, each one about a tip to help you stay focused on your own health and well-being, as well as the loved one you're caring for.
Paula Falk is the Director of the Caregiver Resource Center (CRC) and Adult Day Service Program at The Living Room at Senior Friendship Centers’ Sarasota campus. The Caregiver Resource Center is a community collaboration bringing together agencies and businesses offering services and products to help caregivers through one of life’s more challenging times. Conversation with Maggie Priebe of Working America
by AndreaMiller0 in Politics Progressive
Tags: Maggie Priebe Working America labor council Economic Justice progressive politics
Working America is a national organization for working people who don’t have the benefit of a union on the job. Started in 2003, we mobilize our 3 million members throughout the year to fight for good jobs and a just economy. The majority of our members are working-class moderates from across the country. They are gun owners and churchgoers. They do not go to protests or rallies but they are angry about a corporate-controlled government and an economy tilted against them. In places where few other progressive organizations go, our organizers reach out to thousands of people—at their doorsteps—to talk about economic issues they care about and share ways to take action. Working America provides the bridge between these members and a progressive understanding of the economy. Two out of three people we talk to at the doors sign up as members. This year, we are in organizing working people in more than a dozen cities and states, in suburbs and exurbs, on college campuses and in rural areas, and more.
About Maggie Priebe Maggie Priebe joined Working America as the program director in 2009. She helps develop the organization’s approach to issues, working with the field staff to translate issues into a program to educate and engage members. She also coordinates educational material development. Miss Priebe has been fighting for social justice for ten years and previously worked with Ohio Citizen Action, America Votes and the Cincinnati Central Labor Council.

Stuart Zechman talks with Jay Ackroyd about trust funds as instruments of infrastructure development, e.g.: the roads we drive on. He considers how — if the centrists, 'moderates" and other Very Serious People in Washington have their way — the redirection of the Highway Trust Fund to general federal revenues presages plans for the Social Security Trust Fund. The argument in favor of Prop 8 is being presented by attorneys as marriage being exclusive to heterosexual couples because procreation is necessary in maintaining the family unit. Homosexual couples do not need the distinction since homosexual couples cannot reproduce between themselves. I presented 2 recent court rulings that support this as well as the legal battles that threaten to overrun our courts when children are involved. I also discussed the attempt by the media to brand moderates as
