On this week’s The Farm radio talk show on the Overthrow Radio Network, host Chris Petherick talks with Lenore Skenazy, the author of the popular book Free-Range Kids.
Chris and Lenore will discuss, among other things, parenting in the modern age of fear. Topics will include recent cases of parents who have been arrested for merely wanting their children to be independent and self-reliant.
Lenore, who's been called the world’s worst mom for inspiring parents to raise self-sufficient kids, maintains her own website FreeRangeKids, which offers a good reality check on the constant fearmongering put out by the nanny state.
Check out Lenore’s other sites, Free Range Friend and Lenore Speaks.

We expect our wireless devices to work everywhere. The thought of not being connected is disappointing to some and terrifying to others. After all, whatever would we do if we couldn’t access social media, email, or call to check on the kids as we walk to the next business meeting? Few people contemplate the reason their wireless device does work in building basements, hospitals, and many other buildings. Thankfully, in these instances, someone saw the need to increase signal strength and paid to have that signal enhanced or rebroadcast. RF Connect, based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, is the recognized leader in the design, deployment and support of high performance unified wireless systems, mobile solutions and applications. They set the standard in wireless and mobile solutions, design and deployment expertise through partnering with industry leaders across the entire RF spectrum. Join host Melissa Birnie as she talks with Jeff Hipchen (recognized by Crain’s Detroit Business Magazine as a “40 under 40” business leader), and currently Executive Vice President of RF Connect, to learn more about RF Connect, their services, and what sets them apart from others in this field.
On this week’s The Farm radio talk show on the Overthrow Radio Network, host Chris Petherick talks with Laurie Cohen Peters and Liz Reitzig, the founders of Farm Food Freedom Coalition (F3C).
Chris, Laurie and Liz will discuss local food production in the age of industrial farming, including the tragic case of New York farmer Joshua Rockwood, who was recently arrested and hit with a series of absurd charges because, among other things, his livestock’s water was frozen in the middle of winter and he did not heat his barns.
Laurie is a co-founder of the F3C and is a member of the Rawesome Food Club in Venice, Calif., which was raided in 2012 by California officials because it specialized in unprocessed foods, including raw milk. Liz is co-coordinator of Grassfed on the Hill buying club, which serves the greater Washington, D.C. area and is co-founder of F3C. She has spent the past six years representing small farms and consumers at the state legislature and in the halls of Congress lobbying for fewer restrictions on farmers.

The Felicia Ann Cutler Farm was created to honor the memory of Felicia Ann Cutler. She was dedicated to helping others and her vision was to “feed the people and teach them to feed themselves.” She passed in 2009 but her legacy continues. Felicia’s Farm provides eggs and fresh produce to give a much needed nutritional boost to the homeless and hungry in Tucson. No other nonprofit farm donates all of their produce and very few sources donate protein. Felicia’s Farm donates 100% of the vegetables and eggs produced on the farm to soup kitchens, providing fresh food and protein for those most in need. I honestly and truly cannot wait to do this interview. This show sponsored by Discount Cab.
Mobile technology is exploding! It’s changing the way we live and the way we run our businesses. But mobile technology is much more than the latest ‘app’ downloaded to your cell phone or tablet; mobile is actually many technologies that are impacting every industry doing business in Michigan. The mobile / wireless industry is one of very few global industries that generate over 1 Trillion dollars in revenue annually, and in Michigan, it’s one of our fastest-growing sectors – but yet the best kept secret in the state. Mobile/wireless technologies have the ability to transform our state’s economy – if we act now!
Interested in learning what this surge in mobile technology means to you, your business and Michigan’s economy? Please join our host, Melissa Birnie, for a discussion with Linda Daichendt, Executive Director of the Mobile Technology Association of Michigan.

When you think of AARP, do mobile apps come to mind? AARP is known to provide discounts to is members, provide branded insurance products, and lobby on behalf of Social Security and Medicare. Recently, this same non-profit has released two mobile apps - targeting the Caregiver community.
A caregiver is a term for anyone who helps or provides care to another individual, often a parent or spouse, in handling their daily activities. The caregiver can be paid, such as a nurse, but is more often an unpaid relative. And the person receiving care is often suffering an impairment, and/or dealing with health issues.
These two apps released by AARP (for iOS and Android) provide features designed to help in providing care. For instance, the apps help manage medications, keep a schedule of doctor's appointments and other medical needs, and create and maintain notes you want to share with the doctor. But will this work? Does this actually help someone take care of a loved one? Are these features unique? Are they really the features that a Caregiver needs?
On May 28th, at a special 11am EST/8am Pacific time, we will be joined by Trisha San Diego of AARP, who is the driving force behind the creation and release of these Apps, and we'll ask her these questions.
We'll talk about these apps and ask if there is a sign of things to come from AARP?
