We've seen it in any activity....the Ego that demands recognition and respect. We all have Ego, but some have bigger ones than others, to the point of inflated self image, a sense of superiority over anyone, and an attitude where everyone should know who you are.
How does Ego affect martial arts training? Or even teaching martial arts? Is humility all that it's cracked up to be? We'll discuss these questions and more, so join us for the conversation! Give us a call or listen live on Blogtalkradio.com!
Sunday November 2nd, 6 pm Pacific/9 pm Eastern
Join Sifu Restita and Sifu Bob as they have an open discussion about "Pet Peeves of Martial artists"
Let's face it, we all have things that annoy us. As much as martial arts may allow us to maintain a cool head, things can and do irk us in some way. Call in to join the fun conversation and let's talk about YOUR pet peeves too! (347) 677-0699 is our call in number. Anyone welcome to join in, regardless of experience in martial arts. We want to hear from all sorts of arts, BJJ, Karate, Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Arnis, etc. We'll start discussing martial arts pet peeves at 6:30 pm.
Sifu Restita will start: Pet peeves.....When people say "numchucks" or "chucks" instead of "nunchaku"....If you're going to say you know how to use them, use the correct term!! When self proclaimed weapons masters wear hakama incorrectly.
Nancy Silberkleit of Archie Comic Publications stepped into her role as the Co-CEO of the company in 2009 with the vision that the comic book, as a graphic novel, is a valuable tool for developing literacy among first-time readers and instilling love for reading in everyone. Nancy taught art for over 20 years and has seen the power of comics to encourage literacy and creativity in children. It is a natural progression for children, as a bridge to reading from the picture books of their younger years.
Having recognized that young readers may not have access to comic books, she created the Comic Book Fairs at schools across America and Canada, as an event to ignite an interest in reading. In addition, Nancy has established her own foundation Rise Above Social Issues Foundation, Inc., as a non-profit that addresses challenging social issues, such as childhood obesity and other chronic medical conditions, as well as bullying, discrimination and environmental concerns through comic books. Nancy has also worked to develop comics that promote children’s health, including ‘JD Shapes Up,’ an illustrated manual aiming to reduce childhood obesity.”
An avid and sought-after speaker, Nancy has also spoken at the ‘INK conference in association with TED, 2012’ and the ‘One Globe 2012: Uniting Knowledge Communities’ conference in India, amongst other prestigious events around the world. Nancy has been widely recognized in the media for serving as a unique voice in promoting literacy through the medium of comic books and her transition from an educator to a business leader. She was recently featured in the Indian edition of the Fortune magazine.

With the recent announcement that New York and New Jersey are mandating isolation for individuals deemed high risk to Ebola exposure, the topic of a government-ordered quarantine has been the subject of much debate. Many people fear these orders could be used against political enemies.
In this report, we will take a closer look at why the medical quarantine may actually be the only way to prevent so much of what we fear.
Also covered this report: Army study shows Ebola is airborne in lower temperatures; the Army is quarantining soldiers who have served in Africa; and, a memo from the State Department outlines plans to bring Ebola-infected foreign citizens into the United States for treatment.

This week's New Comc Book Day gave us so many great stories. I had to reduce my list so I could reasonably justify my comic book budget. Ms. Marvel is continuing to please the masses. And she actually had a team-up this month. Magneto is another great book so far. And Archie Andrews dies heroically in the pages of Life With Archie issue 36. What do you all think about major character deaths in comics? Who did you hate to see die in the comic books? We will also be talking about the changes in the upcoming Marvel Now titles, True Blood and gay imagery in pop culture..
