We will speak with the creator of the cultural event that will take place tonight at the Met Museum Mrs. Rubie Britt-Height.
Rubie R. Britt-Height has been the Director of Community Relations for The Mint Museum since 2008. She initiates and manages opportunities to collaborate with culturally diverse community groups, businesses and other organizations to promote art exhibitions and programs. She manages audience development through education and outreach initiatives, represents the Mint at public speaking engagements and serves as an arts ambassador with an emphasis on underserved and underrepresented populations, but her outreach includes numerous diverse groups. She also founded the Romare Bearden Society at the Mint, which has acquired and gifted 3 major works of art to the Museum.
Her main diversity programs are the Grier Heights Youth Arts Program, now in its 11th year, and Mint to Move Cultural Dance Night, held quarterly at the Mint Museum Uptown at the Levine Center for the Arts.
Deardra Shuler hosts her show Topically Yours featuring guests Tony Toni Tone, best known for their songs Anniversary and It Never Rains in Southern California. On the 2nd-half of the show is Mint Condition known for their songs What Kind of Man Would I Be and Breakin My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes). Band members are Ricky Kinchen, Stokley Williams, and Larry Waddell.
R&B group Tony! Toni! Toné! is comprised of Dwayne Wiggins on lead vocals and guitar, his brother Raphael Saadiq (born Charles Ray Wiggins) on lead vocals and bass, and their cousin Timothy Christian Riley on drums and keyboards. Other members were Elijah Baker, Carl Wheeler, Randall Wiggins, and Amar Khalil, who is the current lead singer of the group, and Antron Haile. Both groups will appear at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, May 30th at 8pm.
This Musical Showcase shines a spotlight on Mint Julep Jazz Band based out of Durham, North Carolina. "A vintage sound that's always fresh" is the motto on their website and it couldn't be more fitting. Blending old with new and reviving a Swing Jazz dance scene that is fast on the rise, Mint Julep Jazz is sure to please the masses with their newest installment seeking crowd sourced funding on KickStarter. Mint Condition is an R&B, Funk, NeoSoul, Jazz Band which was formed in the 1980's by a group of young talented men who ROCK! The core members have remained the same throughout the years.
