Tune In Thursday 25th At 6:00pm (eastern) As Host Of Intro To Info - "Mikeisha Best" & Co-host Alaska
Sits Down With Speech & Premieres His Music From The Past & Current.

In 1987, Speech joined with fellow DJ Headliner to form the group Arrested Development.
After over three years together, the group released their inaugural album, 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life Of...,
which produced several hits and sold very well.[citation needed] Speech performed lead vocals, and produced the group's tracks.
The group's follow-up album, Zingalamaduni, fared poorly by comparison, but was critically acclaimed. Speech would later go on to
pursue his solo career. Speech also started Vagabond Productions since 1994 – Vagabond started as a vehicle for
Grammy winners Arrested Development and their business dealings and became a promoter of neo soul, hip-hop, and rock concerts in Atlanta.
The company then switched to representing artists in U.S. and Japan. Since then, Vagabond has become an all around production house that presents
music to various labels and on-line outlets across the globe.

In 2000, Speech also reunited with Arrested Development (without the participation of Headliner Aerle Taree). The group continues to tour the U.S.,
Japan, Australia, Canada, Africa, and the Middle East.

    in Entertainment

The group originally consisted of frontman Melvin Riley, Gordon Strozier (lead guitar), Gregory Potts (keyboards), Willie Triplett (percussion/keyboards), John Eaton (bass guitar), and Gerald Valentine (drums). They had performed throughout Flint at high school talent shows and were discovered by WJLB Detroit Radio personality The Electrifying Mojo in 1982. They gained regional fame with their first release, "Tonight," in 1983. "Tonight" was an underground hit in Flint and Detroit which helped garner them national prominence shortly after their signing under the MCA label. They recorded their debut album, Ready for the World, during 1984 with producer Bernard Terry and engineer Charles Brown, Jr.

    Success[edit]
In 1985, the band signed to the Steven Machat-Rick Smith management company, AMI. The agreement with MCA was redrawn, and promotion and marketing dollars were committed to promote the group. This proved successful as the group was steered to #1 on the US pop charts as well as top five in all the Western European countries and Australia, with their best-known hit "Oh Sheila." In the US, this song went to #1 on the R&B, Pop Charts, and the Hot Dance Club Play charts that year, becoming the first ever single to hold the #1 spot on all three of these charts simultaneously. The song "Digital Display" followed and hit #21.

In 1986, the band released their second album, Long Time Coming, produced by: Gary Spaniola which returned them to the Top 10 on the pop charts with the slow jam, "Love You Down," which peaked at #9.

Ready for the World went on to release several more albums that failed to capture the success of the group's first two releases, and as a result, they disbanded in 1991.

The group started in 1984 as The Gents and comprised Drakeford, McCain, William McNeir, Ronald Scruggs, and Bernard Belle.
During an anti-drug benefit, the group received a meeting with the producer Teddy Riley who renamed the group Today and melded
them into the current lineup. Riley helped them receive a deal with MCA Records.

As the head of MCA records urban department, Jheryl Busby, moved into Motown, he brought several acts with him, including Today,
The Boys and The Good Girls. While touring the country, the groups were successful. Motown promoted Today as the new Four Tops,
and The Boys and The Good Girls were promoted as the new Jackson 5 and new Supremes respectively.
