I know we all remember the game as a kid in grade school when the teacher would whisper something in the ear of one of our classmates and then tell that kid to "pass it along" to the next person. As you know, by the time the message traveled around the room to the last person it had little or no resemblance to the "original message."
When the teacher told us what the "original message" was, we all laughed in disbelief trying to figure out which one of the 25 miniature "middle men" misinterpreted the message. We can learn a few things from this childhood exercise:
All people "hear" things differently.
Everything is subject to "personal interpretation",
Messages can be easily manipulated when using an "intermediary," and,
You can never truly know the "intent of the heart" of the messenger (except Christ).
In many instances, a "middle man" can be an unreliable witness. There are far too many variables that can effect one's life that can corrupt their personal message to another individual or group. As a "Believer," God has given us "unfettered access" to the Throne of Grace.
The Word of God says, "Then behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom..." (Matt. 27:51a)
People Demanding Action on Middle East Peace with Joel Segal
We selected the anniversary of the 9/11/01 attacks, because our program is dedicated to healing the wounds of war, bringing people together, and building understanding to achieve a lasting and just peace in the Middle East.
Joel Segal is a longtime organizer, activist, and scholar. He served as a senior legislative aide to Congressman John Conyers for 13 years, and helped found and lead movements to reform healthcare, provide relief to AIDS victims in Africa, as well as for Peace in the Middle East.
Joel will welcome leaders, experts and activists working for Middle East Peace. In this first program, Joel will interview world renowned scholar Dr. Hussein Yusuf Kamal Ibish, PhD, Senior Fellow at the American Task Force on Palestine, and a frequent guest on national and international news programs. We are very honored to welcome Dr. Ibish to help us launch this new show.
Alex Lubin will discuss his book, Geographies of Liberation: The Making of the Afro-Arab Political Imaginary. Lubin will talk about the history of African Americans and Middle Eastern issues, primarily Palestine, since the late 19th century to today. The opinions of Martin Luther King Jr, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, Huey Newton, and others concerning Palestine will be addressed.
Joel grew up attending the Butler Community Alliance and felt a call to ministry at the LIFE conference. Joel attended Moody Bible in Chicago and interned at South Park Church. Joel started in May of 2012 at ACAC developing the programming and discipleship strategy for our middle school students. Joel has led summer mission opportunities to Greenville, Baltimore and Niagara Falls. He is on the District Youth Commission and leads the team for the district retreat. Joel joins John today to talk about ministry to middle school students, something that some consider the most difficult age to minister to in the church world.
Todays gests are Russ Ortiz (the former big league pitcher for D-backs, Giants, Braves ) and his partner LJ Richardson founders of 2nd Guy Golf. We will learn about the new business, why they strted it and why the "give back" aspect isso importantto them.
