Joy Keys chats with Micro Sculptor Willard Wigan

    in Current Events

Special Guest: Willard Wigan is a sculptor from Birmingham, England, who makes microscopic art. Willard’s micro-sculptures are so minute that they are only visible through a microscope. Each piece commonly sits within the eye of a needle, or on a pin head.
Willard’s artwork has been described by many as “the eighth wonder of the world”. Such accolade resulted in him being honoured by HM. Queen Elizabeth II with an MBE for his services to art, which was presented by HRH. Prince Charles in July 2007.
Owners of Willard’s work now include:  HRH. Prince Charles, Sir Elton John, Sir Philip Green, Lord Bath, Mike Tyson and Simon Cowell to name but a few.  Willard’s latest piece, the Coronation Crown was requested by HRH Queen Elizabeth II in tribute to her celebration to her Diamond Jubilee. http://www.willard-wigan.com
Special Guest: Horologist Stephen Forsey partner in the Greubel Forsey watch making company. In 1999 Greubel and Forsey began working on a new generation of tourbillon specifically designed to improve the timekeeping of the mechanical watch. Four years later they unveiled "Greubel Forsey" and stunned horological aficionados with their innovative Double Tourbillon 30°, a timepiece clearly demonstrating their twin goals of innovation and excellence. http://www.greubelforsey.com
Art Piece 1 is collaboration between Robert Greubel, Stephen Forsey and Willard Wigan, and features one of Wigan’s micro-sculptures, observable through special optics.

    THE MAD SCULPTOR-Harold Schechter

    in Entertainment

Beekman Place, once one of the most exclusive addresses in Manhattan, had a curious way of making it into the tabloids in the 1930's: “SKYSCRAPER SLAYER,” “BEAUTY SLAIN IN BATHTUB” read the headlines. On Easter Sunday in 1937, the discovery of a grisly triple homicide at Beekman Place would rock the neighborhood yet again—and enthrall the nation. The young man who committed the murders would come to be known in the annals of American crime as the Mad Sculptor.

The charismatic perpetrator, Robert Irwin, was a brilliant young sculptor who had studied with some of the masters of the era. But with his genius also came a deeply disturbed psyche; Irwin was obsessed with sexual self-mutilation and was frequently overcome by outbursts of violent rage.

Irwin’s primary victim, Veronica Gedeon, was a figure from the world of pulp fantasy—a stunning photographer's model whose scandalous seminude pinups would titillate the public for weeks after her death. Irwin’s defense attorney, Samuel Leibowitz, was a courtroom celebrity with an unmatched record of acquittals and clients ranging from Al Capone to the Scottsboro Boys. And Dr. Fredric Wertham, psychiatrist and forensic scientist, befriended Irwin years before the murders and had predicted them in a public lecture months before the crime.

Based on extensive research and archival records, The Mad Sculptor recounts the chilling story of the Easter Sunday murders—a case that sparked a nationwide manhunt and endures as one of the most engrossing American crime dramas of the twentieth century. The book evokes the faded glory of post-depression New York and the singular madness of a brilliant mind turned against itself. How Blacks Can Profit From The Beauty Industry

    in Business

Tonight's show is sponsored by WWW.SEXYBIGLASHES.COM

Blacks spend billions of dollars on the Black hair care industry every year, but Black businesses only get a small portion of that.  We have to change that.  In tonight's show we will tell you how you can take advantage of the beauty industry and get your piece of the pie.

Join me, Shawn Hill and my new co-host Louiseza Sanderson as we tackle this tough subject.  I am an author, speaker and talk show host.  I am also the founder of BlackWealthCreation.com.  My wife and I work to help others achieve financial freedom.  We work primarily with women to show them how to create an income from home so that they can spend more time with their families.  Contact me on Facebook at my fan page BlackWealthCreation.

Louiseza Sanderson is a business consultant, writer, and founder of MindYourBlackBusiness.com.  As a consultant and a small business owner herself, Louiseza came to realize that while there were many small business resources there were few that provided a platform for micro and small Black owned businesses.  The vision of Mind Your Black Business is to help businesses grow and prosper. The State of Macro Practice in the Helping Professions

    in Family

The events over the past few weeks have raised some questions about just what is social work doing in order to improve the quality of life of people in this country. Social work talks about its role as addressing the person-in-environment but what is being covered in social work content to truly address the person-in-environment context? Are there enough human service professionals trained in macro practice to truly make a difference?

This special Dialogue show will be with members of ACOSA's (Association for Community Organization and Social Administration) Special Commission on Macro Practice. They include Mark Homan, Jack Rothmann, Kelsey De Aavila, Sue Edgerton and Linda Plitt Donaldson. They will discuss why Macro Matters. How does the profession balance the micro-macro dichotomy to make sure that macro content is adequately addressed? What are the implications on licensing if one chooses to be a macro oriented practitioner? What are the job prospects for macro practitioners? These topics and others will be the focus of this special Dialogue radio show. The show will be Monday, December 15, 2015 at 8:30 pm Eastern Standard Time (5:30 pm Pacific Standard Time).

Dialogue is part of The American Family Blog Talk Radio and can be found at: The-American-Family National Blog Radio.

One can listen to the show through the web site. To participate with your questions or comments, call: 347-327-9168.

Join us Monday, December 15 at 8:30 pm EST for this important topic.

Randy Cooper, Famous Shadow Sculptor and Caregiver to His Mother

    in Caregiving

Randy Cooper has had many jobs and careers, ranging from lumberjack in the woods of the Pacific Northwest to serving as a special education teacher, from an operator at a Westinghouse plant to a developer and teacher of the Total Quality Management program at two of their facilities. As an artist, he credits his attention to detail to this latter experience at Westinghouse. Randy's mother was a master carver of birds and gunstocks, and one of his sisters is an accomplished painter, sculptor, and author. It wasn’t until Randy was nearly 50 that he discovered his own penchant for art. His first experience with art education was taking a 6-week course with sculptor Wren Prather-Stroud. He also attended a week-long course with Tuck Langland at the Scottsdale Artists' School. After working successfully in clays, artificial stone, and bronzes, Randy discovered wire mesh, which soon became his medium. He began creating intriguing and magical sculptures in wire mesh and has developed all of the techniques that he uses in making his “Shadow Sculptures” on his own. These are forms created in wire screen that cast lovely shadows on the wall when lit with a light source. Indeed, sometimes the shadows seem to show more detail than the original sculpture and instill a feeling of magic into the creation. These “Shadow Sculptures” have been sweeping the United States and the world for the past few years, highlighting many private collections throughout the world, and Randy Cooper has become a major force among America's contemporary artists. Randy works as a full-time sculptor and lives in New Mexico with his wife, Susan, a former environmental engineer who is now a writer and an artist who has worked primarily in pastels, oils, and acrylics. Join Dave Nassaney, The Caregiver's Caregiver, author, speaker, life coach, and radio talk-show host for caregivers.  DaveNass.com ,  Call (213) 943 3630 to listen.

WKPJB Radio Features Trish Doolin! W/ Chamber 7 & BluPhunk

    in Poetry

Trish Doolin is a long time friend of mine and also a wonderful artist in so many aspects!! I am looking forward to having her on the show. For those of you who have heard my first album, Hostile Intentions, you will know her voice from a track called, These Changing Winds where we did a duet together. She is a remarkable artist in all senses of the word. She is not only an accomplished spoken word artist, but a painter, a sculptor, a jewelry maker as well as an author! Her accolades and accomplishments don't stop there! Her professional resume is incredible!!! She has been out of the poetry scene for quite some time and I decided to extend this invitation to her in hopes of reminding her that her presense is missed!!! Please help me welcome a woman of strong creative conviction as we embark on the journey of dismantling the topics of tainted media and the arts! Trish Doolin!
