Nicholas Snow welcomes celebrated actor Rena Owen back to the show. Owen became one of New Zealand’s most successful and recognizable Actors on the international film platform following her performance as Beth Heke in Once Were Warriors, New Zealand’s most successful film to date.
As Frances Morton reports for Stuff.co.nz, "To be an actor in Los Angeles takes hard slog and sacrifice – and though she came close to quitting as recently as August this year, she now feels that after 14 years in Hollywood, she is entering a new stage in her career, finally in demand for roles that tap into her experience. Donning a short wig and wrinkles, she is unrecognisable in cinemas this month as the grandmother in Maori action film The Dead Lands. Meanwhile, she's filming two major projects back-to-back: she plays a healer in Sundance TV show The Red Road and a modern-day witch in studio film The Last Witch Hunter, featuring Vin Diesel and Michael Caine."

Did you enjoy your summer? Living and lounging by the beach in Monmouth County might make you forget about others in our area who are desperately in need and feeling the pangs of hunger. Summer is a season of hunger for children who don't receive the food they normally receive during the school year. One in every ten people in Monmouth and Ocean Counties receive emergency food from the FoodBank’s network of pantries, soup kitchens and other agencies. The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties teamed-up with Sabrett and WindMill Hot Dogs to raise money to provide food for those in our communities who don’t have enough to eat. The 10,000 Hot Dog campaign ran through Labor Day. Each $5.00 donation would deliver 15 meals and hope to struggling families. Additionally, Sabrett matched contributions to the project, donating up to 10,000 hot dogs. The fundraiser kicked off right before Memorial Day with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes playing a concert on the roof deck of the WindMill in West End. The 10,000 Hot Dog campaign ended Labor Day. In this follow-up visit with Rena Levine Levy of the Windmill and Peter Grote of the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, we’ll get the results of this ambitious campaign and learn more about other initiatives from the Foodbank to eradicate hunger in our area. After the interview, please visit After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for more information.
Combining the eloquence and raw sensuality of Jeanette Winterson with the romantic, renegade spirit of Patti Smith, Further Out Than You Thought is a taut and erotically charged literary debut, set against the chaos of the 1992 L.A. riots, about three people searching for identity and meaning from award-winning poet and indie bookshop co-founder Michaela Carter.
In the Neverland that is Los Angeles, where make-believe seems real, three dreamers find themselves on the verge of transformation. Twenty-five-year-old poet Gwendolyn Griffin works as a stripper to put herself through graduate school. Her perpetually stoned boyfriend Leo dresses in period costume to hawk his music downtown, and seems to be losing his already tenuous grip on reality. And their flamboyant best friend and neighbor, nightclub crooner Count Valiant, is slowly withering away.
When the city explodes in violence after the Rodney King verdict, the chaos becomes a catalyst for change. Valiant is invigorated, Leo plans a new stunt—walking into east L.A., naked, holding a white flag—and Gwen, discovering she is pregnant, is confronted by troubling questions. Can Leo become a good, dependable father? Can she leave the club life behind, or will the city’s spell prove too seductive?
Combining poetry and sensuality with an edgy urban sensibility, Further Out Than You Thought is a celebration of life and a haunting story of love, friendship, and one woman’s quest for redemption.

For those of us living in eastern Monmouth County, we are well aware that we live in a summer vacation destination. But in the words of Rena Levine-Levy of The WindMill, “Hunger doesn't take a vacation.” Summer is a season of hunger for children who do not receive the food they normally receive during the school year. One in every ten people in Monmouth and Ocean Counties receive emergency food from the FoodBank’s network of pantries, soup kitchens and other agencies. The FoodBank served 51,000 children with emergency food in 2010, compared with about 19,000 in 2005. The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties has teamed-up with Sabrett and WindMill Hot Dogs in raising money to provide food for those in our communities who don’t have enough to eat. The 10,000 Hot Dog campaign will run through Labor Day. Each $5.00 donation will help deliver 15 meals and hope to struggling families. Additionally, Sabrett will match contributions to the project, donating up to 10,000 hot dogs. The fundraiser kicked off right before Memorial Day with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes playing a concert on the roof deck of the WindMill in West End. This campaign runs through Labor Day and to donate click here. After the interview please visit After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for more info.

In this episode, we'll talk about the dynamics and polarities of men and women’s relationships. We know that both sexes have a masculine and a feminine side. I’ll ask her about how we go about balancing the more masculine energy women need to get through their work day with the more nurturing feminine aspects of home life. Also, Michaela has worked with many men in her practice over the years. I would like to know what men really want in women these days now that our roles have changed so much and women have essentially come much more into their own masculine energy. We’ll talk about those changing roles and how it can be confusing and challenging when it comes to our intimate relationships.
