When Bad Messaging Happens to Good Businesses
You can relate to this. You come up with a message for your business, your campaign, whatever and....nothing. Nothing happens because people don't get it. Or, they don't need it.
It happens to all businesses at one time or another. Most of the time your audience won't tell you they don't get it. That's the problem with unclear messaging.
What are the signs that things aren't working?
How do we fix those?
Join me Thursday, July 11 as we discuss some of the common messaging issues businesses face and what to do about them.

This interview contains priceless information about micro-messaging and how it affects the workplace every day all around the world. George F. Robinson is Founder and President of The Robinson Group, a consulting and training company where he utilizes his 27 years of corporate experience in helping companies align their culture strategy with business goals to heighten productivity and bottom line performance. He is an expert in micro-messaging. George defines micro-messaging as the DNA of culture change and the missing link in diversity and inclusion. His expertise in sales showed when he was the Vice President of Sales for Wilson Learning Corporation where he helped increase sales by 20% on the eastern territory. He knows people love to buy, but they hate being sold.
Divide + Conquer. It's been around since...forever. From Julius Ceasar to Emperor Steven the First. With one common goal. To seize and maintain power. There is no denying the success of this tactic when one looks at history. But it always ultimately fails. Harper has used it as a weapon since Day One of the Corporate Pacification Committee (CPC). It is time for Canadians to see it for what it is and say enough.
Kevin Bourassa (@KevinBourassa) became an international advocate on behalf of equal marriage for same-sex couples when his January 14, 2001 marriage to Joe Varnell captured world headlines. After an initial career as a broadcaster and music journalist, Kevin's spent the bulk of his career working in information technology beginning in the 1980's and in banking during the 1990s. He was Director of Process Management for a bank when he was invited, with Mr. Varnell, to be a test case for a court challenge against the prohibition of marriage for same-sex couples. Things changed overnight.
Kevin travelled with Joe to speak to audiences in Canada, the US, and Europe, advocating marriage equality. He has delivered lectures at numerous universities and law schools. In addition to speaking, Kevin became an active author, publishing in an assortment of commercial and adjudicated academic publications. In 2002 he coauthored, with Joe Varnell, the critically-acclaimed book, Just Married: Gay Marriage and the Expansion of Human Rights, published in Canada and the United States in English and worldwide in French translation. He is under contract, along with Joe, for a second book.
Kevin has been recognized, with Joe Varnell, for working on behalf of human rights. The couple were honoured as grand marshals for Pride parades in London, Halifax + Saint John. Now in retirement, Kevin enjoys married life with Joe and three cats.
The View Up Here is honoured to welcome Kevin to the show for his insight.
Are parents responsible for the online conduct of their kids? Attorney Steve weighs in on this extremely important "digital age" legal topic. Your kids need to understand basic digital etiquette and what's at stake if they go around bullying or intimdating people online, even if it is just a prank. If the parents know about something and don't take corrective measures, they might find themselves in a position facing a state or federal lawsuit for the acitivites on facebook, youtube, twitter, instagram, text messaging, or even email, carried out by their kids. For example, if your kids engage in cyberbullying or copryight infringement, could the parents be sued? Could this lead to suspension at school?
It is always important to undertand that in our litigious world anyone can be sued for anything, so it is crucial that you build a relationship with your kids, understand them as people, but also to understand what they are doing online.
You owe it to them to protect their brand and their reputation as one screw up can leave them dealing with negative internet publicity, dealing with lawsuits and potentially impacting their future career potential.
