A memoir begins with the need to tell a story. The story often contains a momentous life situation which the author needs to excavate and examine in order to discover how the event shaped his or her values and opinions. Telling the story in a way that readers can see themselves can create a healing experience for both the writer and the reader. In my case, I decided to break my silence about my husband's death in the Vietnam War.
Ruth W. Crocker, Ph.D is an author, writing consultant and expert on recovery from trauma and personal tragedy. Her book, Those Who Remain: Remembrance and Reunion After War describes her experience following her husband’s death in Vietnam and how she found resources for healing. An excerpt has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

Jasmina Agrillo Scherr knows about resilience. Her life has never been easy. As a child, she felt different from the get-go because she sensed and saw what others couldn't. Her mother - manic, depressed and irrational, wanted to take her to "head doctors." Jasmina suffered through illness while living with a mother who was "a walking time bomb." Her situation only got worse for her in adulthood; among other things she had a brain tumor that almost killed her and a heartbreaking divorce.
Jasmina knows about resilience, but she also knows the joy of buoyancy and a life filled with spiritual blessings; a loving son and an adoring husband. She knows the beauty of connecting to the world beyond this reality, serving others, and being guided toward the light whenever at a crossroads.
Jasmina Agrillo Scherr has walked the path and then held her hand out to others. Spiritual pilgrim, yogi mystic, meditation coach, brain recovery counselor, and spiritual healer, she has spent more than 25 years inspiring people the world over, teaching them how to access and use the power of their heart to impact consciousness, health, performance, creativity and relationships.
Her new book, Mirror of My Soul, Sanctum of My Heart, is a spiritual memoir and inspiring treatise on how heart-resonance, intuition and resilience can get you past the tough times and into the thrive times.
Today Jasmina is here to share her story and to provide the wisdom and inspiration to be in our hearts looking for our inner truth.

We'll talk with poet, essayist and author Sheila Bender about tapping into our creativity to write from personal experience. Sheila is an accomplished author of many books about writing, including Creative Writing Demystified. She teaches university courses and workshops about writing for several organizations and conferences, as well as online courses.
Leslie Anderson will discuss how to apply the classic strategy of information-gathering to your research so that you can write a robust family history. She will explain how customized timelines, resource guides, and locality guides can help you with your writing.
Leslie's research began with one question: "Where was my great-grandfather born?" The answer (and the analysis) culminated in an article that won the 2013 National Genealogical Society Family History Writing Contest. The four-generation narrative "Tabitha (Bugg) George Smith (1838 - ca 1890) of Mecklenburg County, Virginia" was published in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly (March 2015). "It was over 20 pages with more than 10,000 words and 200 citations."
