Get Healthy Now with Denise Thomson: Sleep

    in Health

Good morning and welcome to Get Healthy Now with Denise Thomson, founder of Miclknight, where health and wellness are one. I am an educator, speaker, author, fitness trainer and passionate about healthy living.

    Gift: at the end

    Topic: Sleep

What exactly is sleep? What is it's definition? (Wikipedia)

How much sleep do we need to feel good the next morning?

    Rule of thumb:

    Newborns (0-3months)  14-17 hours

    Infants (4-11 months)   12 - 15 hours

    Toddlers (1-2 years)     11 - 14 hours

    Preschoolers (3-5 years)  10 - 13 hours

    School-age children (6-13 years)   9 - 11 hours

    Teenagers (14-17 years)      8 - 10 hours

    Young Adults (18-25 years) & Adults (26-64 years)   7 - 9 hours

    Older Adults (65 and over)    7 - 8 hours.

Why is sleep so important in our lives?

~60% of waste products produced during sleep, body recovers, skin restores,

Lack of sleep: slows down healing process, motor skills are slower, tremors from lack of sleep or too much caffeine....

Why does good sleep improve our health?

Where do you sleep the best, your own bed or anywhere? Why? Mattress, pillow, blanket, different bed, unfamiliar room, ...

Who decides on whether or not we sleep well?

    For children it's the parents......

    For adults..... they decide.....

Good, deep, and solid sleeps makes you feel so good that you can say upon waking up in the morning:

"Today is the best day of my life again!!!"

    Conclusion:

Answer the above questions for yourself and see where you can improve.

"The Secret Alchemy of Food" with Meadow Linn

    in Spirituality

Join Host Pamela Marie Edmunds and Meadow Linn, Author of "The Mystic Cookbook."  Learn about the secrets found in food.
Meadow Linn–-noted speaker, writer, and chef---is the daughter of Denise Linn, world-renowned healer, teacher and author of 16 bestselling books. When she was 18 years old, Meadow, a self-taught chef and lover of all things edible, started catering her mother’s retreats, which she’s been doing ever since. That has lead to an extraordinary collaboration with her mother on a brand new book The Mystic Cookbook: The Secret Alchemy of Food. Filled with luscious recipes, imaginative meals and magical wisdom, they open a portal for you to embark on the sacred journey from nourishment to nirvana—and to harness the hidden dimension of food.
It was while cooking for her mother’s retreats during her summer vacations that Meadow saw the powerful connection between not just what we eat, but also how we eat and how we feel. Eating well brings balance and harmony to mind, body, and spirit. Meadow believes good food should be a celebration of life. Having watched countless people transform their lives simply by making mealtimes fun and delicious, she made a choice. A French teacher with a Masters Degree in French Cultural Studies from Columbia University, she gave up her eight-year teaching career to devote herself to helping others savor their lives more fully. Blending her academic background with her spiritual upbringing, she makes eating and living well become something that seems easily attainable, tasty, and fun.
Meadow also writes a blog called Savor The Day, which is about life, love, and good food. With her mother, she’s the co-author of Quest: A Guide for Creating Your Own Vision Quest, as well as The Mystic Cookbook. Her articles appear frequently in The Seattle Chinese Times and she’s a contributing writer to In Spirit

Monday Mashup Special With Meadow Linn

    in Spirituality

Meadow Linn is a speaker, writer, and chef. A gourmet from birth, Meadow created her first dish when she was three years old ("Tahini Balls"). Impassioned by the tragedy of the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989, although only eleven years old, Meadow began writing a monthly environmental column for children in an Australian newspaper.
At Williams College, Meadow studied French and English literature and received a Masters Degree in French Cultural Studies from Columbia University. Following that, she became a French teacher for children ranging in age from 7-17.
Meadow is the daughter of Denise Linn, world-renowned healer and teacher. When she was 18 years old, Meadow, a self-taught chef and lover of all things edible, started catering her mother's retreats, which she's been doing ever since.
While cooking for these retreats during her summer vacations, Meadow saw the powerful connection between not just what we eat, but also how we eat and how we feel. Eating well brings balance and harmony to mind, body, and spirit.
Meadow believes good food should be a celebration of life. Having watched countless people transform their lives simply by making mealtimes fun and delicious, Meadow gave up her eight-year career as a French teacher and devoted herself to helping others savor their lives more fully.
And today I’ll have this remarkable woman on my show as we discuss her latest book, “The Mystic Cookbook..”  We’ll explore color, scent and vibration as they relate to the spiritual quality of food.
Please join me on a special edition of the Monday Mashsup.
