Yes, indeed - It's Love. Uh, no, not me (it's lot like I'm "crazy" or anything!!! :^)
A lady's labor of songs, working in life - and what a life she's created for a traumatic survivor - Singer/Songwriter/Harvard Grad/Family Leader/Chicken-Raiser/& More, with strength extrodinair - Miss Sharen Wendy Robertson returns to TMDS to release a very special new song (right here on BIRadio) - It's Love!
Straight from the Boston studio to your Milton studio of Brain Injury Radio, Sharen offers her new song, "It's Love", which will join Landon Walker's ''Livin' On The Edge" as the formal opening and closing songs for the show. (yes, FINALLY a decision has been made). Deep with lyrics, mating TBI life with life.
So, after Sharen joins us at the top to the show and explains the meaning of the song; call in and share your story of love. Recieved or given. How has a TBI effected your Love?
Many loves are devided by a Traumatic Brain Injury, and in my opinion, only love will fix the pains. I love my daughters, my dad, my home town - even 'loved' different woman; or so I said. Did I love; or just love the moment? Many thoughts run from love. Run the love thru tonight - define the joy or pain. Define having a TBI and missing what was once "true love" but may never be again. Or is it, and will it?
(424 243-9540) call with opinions, thoughts, desires or confusion of all type of love. And certianly remember as we try to stay focused - I love you folks...
We'll work on our Social Skills, and flip thru the Coping Skills "Bible" and see what lands.
You ever had one of those days, everything is in order life is one track, guests are scheduled, then all of a sudden life changes kind of like a brain injury, between technologoes lack of coorporation, peoples lives change now my guest had complications so tonight is a mix and match. You have something you want to say tonight i have short interviews on brain injury and Mahlon Whitaker is goiing to breifly talk about his up coming caregiver show.
TMDS spent the week aside the Indiana Brain Injury Association (BIRN and I thank you), where a variety of interviews and information was attained. OK, so sleep wasn't often obtained. TIRED, TBI tired but back in the Milton Studio putting the conference together. I can't (at this memory point) remember all I talked with; from IBIA Exec Director Lora Miller, the internationally regocnized Dr. Jim Malek and Dr. Flora Hammond to Julia Pratt, a Support Group Leader, mix and match of knowledgeable classes. And my weekend hero, Miss Olivia, the 10-year old daughter of Life Coach Darcy Keith and current Miss Indiana Pre-Teen. Her interview will touch your heart, as her father is a stroke survivor, and Darcy a TBI thriver. However, it always like Christmas to me, I'll have to calm down and stop playing with the new toys found....I will, more late, and more next week. I'm in negociations with a professional radio host, to become TMDS co-host (see ya Jasmine) who is directing the Joy's House for TBI surviors in Indy, along with many more and the georgeous Dr. Taron S! We'll take a stroll down vendor lane. Oh yeah, my 'nonfunctionalbe' TBI began the week once again under the knowledge of Dr. Samantha Backhaus and RHI Neuro's Social Skills reaserch study program privately with 7 associated survivors. Miracle League Baseball came to a close - happy and sad. But I now have baseball cards, a trophy and friends beyond my imagination! Did I mention Mahlon may be getting his own show with Tonya? I doubt pictures make the shows lineup, some where in that pile of information (and clothes) my camera is. Not a priority after 13 hours of sleep - BIRN listeners are!
Jake Patrick, RHI Sports Director will be my guest, and let me tell you folks, life is good! The annual water skiing event for children and adults with disabilities officially "took flight" at the beautiful Red Bridge Park, on Morse Lake in Cicero, Indiana. Yep, I'm tired - and Mercadi too! Naturally, I'm here though, and with driven force (ok, with friends) we made it. I have an interview with Dan Reed, national parapolympic water ski salomn champion, whose story of survial matches his talent and drive. He's soon off to Italy for world championships. You'll meet Mindy Fox, RHI Foundation Coordinator, and she'll explain and discuss the Foundations effort towards "real life" projects, Julie Foutz, RHI inservice PT who is a personal Angel and she'll talk about international "Murder Ball" forthcoming in France. Lexi Taylor stole the show! A 12-year old Angel recovering for an May '12 accident, is on a path only miracles fly on. Listen close, that smile is quite. Her Mother Eileen will explain the "caregiver" point on view on the day. 'Oddly', I've an interesting story of Thursday, so homework this weekend is watch "Flight". Deborah Berry will call in during the last hour. Yes, my 'coach' is getting her own show on BIRN, which begins tommorrow night!!! But , 'Coach', Deborah knows I'm under contract for a long, long time - and she seems to enjoy my efforts and will always be welcomed, apprieciated and on occasion with us on Sunday. Landon will have something to say, er, sing. I imagine I'll have something to say as well. Huh? Imagine that....Remember, we gotta drive past the strife, because life is good, so good! "Work hard to play hard and have fun - believe in yourself and never, ever quit."
Tonight Matt will be joined by Dr. Kevin Butterfield, and fellow Brain Injury Radio host Kim Justus to discuss reassuring thinking, and the practice of mindfulness. These are tools that Matt learned in his Brain Injury Coping Skills program (BICS). Join us for an informative show, great fellowship, and of course a few laughs! Call ins welcome.
KLXY - you're on the air! OK, still braininjuryradio.com, but I gotta practice - KLXY is coming soon! Still a fun, confusing, tbi hosted show, no matter where TMDS goes (usually downtown Milton). Which is in the same neck of the woods as our first guest - John Hiatt, a '74 graduate of Northeastern HS (Go Knights!). Mr. Hiatt then was educated at various colleges in Indiana. As I would tell him - WHA-LA! My personal Behavior Therapist. A former Electrical Engineer, his path earned a RN Bachelor's in '95 from IU East University. Again, with Honors, he earned a BA degree in Behavioral Science and Social Science in '98. His following education at Ball State provided a Counselor in Psychology. His brilliance and work goes much deeper - licensed as a Mental Heath Therapist (with a degree KeithAnthony can appreciate) - a Clinical Hypnotherapist. Wrap it all up, and the behavior counselor is a RN, LMHC, CCH, LMHT, LCAC, CH, BA's and AA's. With beef broth! One of the smartest men I've ever met (notice I said 'men'). A Behavior and Mental Health therapist should open the door for many thoughts, ideas and questions. He will take a few callers, after we talk (we do that - John likes baseball too). But he does have to work in the morning! John Hiatt discusses life from the inside out; offering directions to courage, inspiration and of course, the beloved Beatles! Now, we're talking about John's intelligence! It like he played with them! That's it, trust me, 3-hours isn't long enough. I'll hang around as always, open the lines for multiple callers, share, talk or listen to my kind of inspirational music. The house band should sweat tonight!...&
With this being Pearl Harbor week, I thought it would be a great time to interview Woody Duffin. Woody is not only my dad, but a WWII hero, who also suffered a traumatic injury. Being a survivor of Pearl Harbor, Woody earned a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and 17 Battle Stars during his service in the Navy. All of that action and peril aside, Woody swears that the worst day of his life, was the day the police accosted his son Matt. It was during a drive to the hospital, to visit Matt's
CURVE BALL!! After all, its baseball season. So tonight, I'd like to re-concentrate my efforts, sorta. Hey, Its MY SHOW! I at first wanted to give a looksee into the world of social media 'on lilne' for TBI support, hope and belief; if not direction (my direction would be - Don't Wait, Get Help NOW). One prime example is Dawn Michelle McDonald, how life and trauma surrendered to unrealistic belief, as her then 11-year old daughter Bailey recovered from one tragidy to another - and then some. Baily is now entering her Junior year of HS, and she plans on sharing with us as well. Like my friends the Riccio's, Dawn will tell us of a mother's hope, a child's dream beyond nightmare and her want and need to help provide an ever lasting TBI message. A TBI Advocate herself with Bailey, she can offer many social media insights as well as life. It's been the Indy 500 day, LeBron is getting his ass kicked in Bankers Fieldhouse as we talk, but more importantly, a few words will be offered on Memorial Day...
Change in plans, not my fault and I certainly didn't call the seizures in. BUT, confusion on TBIN found me back in my 'departed' seat (forgot to turn in my doctor's slip, evidently) tonight, and my lately experiences have been so wrong, SO WRONG in fighting this TBI. Others may deny their injury, others accept and understand. Tonight, lets share OUR TBI difficulties, pills, methods or stategys used, and how such was achieved. Lets not forget when. Total recovery therapy will not only help you to return to you are going to be faster, but most importantly give you insight to understandings. We can do an hour and a half of call ins, I'm drained...Pam Hayes will return Aug 18 along with Jon Winchester to discuss VA benifits of a TBI. One's a friend, one's a national hero. And so understanding, so understanding.
We're back LIVE! From the Downtown Milton studio, with plenty to say (imagine that), cats to pet and brain injury hope to cheerish of life...Whew, I'm worn out - yes still...
Amara Riccio and folks will give us an update her upcoming graduation from High School, pending travels into college life and of course, thier family's "Riccio Pick Me Ups".
I so enjoy listening to "out of the mouth of God's TBI lambs. Youth of today are the advocates of TBI tommorrow. Speaking of the young (at least of heart)...
Dr. Kevin Butterfield and my 'new' friend 'Otto The Comic' hope to stop by during the second hour - you'll be quite surprized at the offerings and inspiration if not pure laughter. At least two of us made it to Vegas! Otto is as inspiring as human beings can be. Funny too! We'll get a Wellness Racing update from the 'Buttery-one' and a peek into the next formal year of plans for brain injury recovery, awareness and 'Racin'...
More on Vegas - the other side of Sin City I was able to see. Plus David Copperfield will pop in and out (you won't see him tho - its an illusion); Lefty will be purring on my lap, reminding me BlogTalk" and 'Skype" has reconfigured itself (we shall see) to work as one. If not, my phone seems to always work (damnit) and we'll be on the air, Live! From Downtown Milton - Grab Your Ruby Slippers!....
Did I mention I'm one of three newly crowned 'Super Hero'? Not Batman or Superman, or even Thor. Nope, of the Survivor-variety! And all this time, I've just been Matt Duffin, trying to make you smile through my goofy eyes....
Happy Halloween? Ummm, OK, if you say so. Bushell of candy prepared. Superman awaiting his second Canal Town appearance and I'm short, very short, on time. Call in with your favorite, or unfavorite Halloween memories. I'll try to surprise you folks too. I'm mean, left as a Zombie with Frankenstien scars - boo; fooled them. I'm alive...
Continuation of Coping Skills study and Social Skills research. Cool, enlightening discussion of Dr Samanatha Backhaus and a "certain" student to find his social recovery goals! Earnest Hemingway even joins forces, as together we can discuss, work on and find our social skills once again. Its amazingly wild what I didn't already know (yes, I said that!).
Discussions from the new Social Skills with TBI classroom offered, the week in reveiw, mental notes on paper and a surprise guest is in the fold. And, Trauma Sports will see (no wheelchair) that I'm BACK on the football siderlines, with a 'body guard'. And what a body....
