Chris' guest is community activist Lita Herron of the Southern California Cease Fire Committee. We discuss her involvement with local Los Angeles area community activists in representing Marlene Pinnock, the great grandmother seen being brutally beaten by a still-unidentified California Highway Patrol Officer on Tuesday 71/14.
As is often the case, recent news has new victims alleging this officer has a habit of similiar behavior. He has put on administrative leave, but is still getting paid. Host Chris Stevenson feels this officer's behavior-along with a previous assault on a black female in Arizona-is part of a rising patern of resentment he calls Black-Crazy. This has been manifest increasingly since the election of a black president, but is now not excluding the women.
Feel free to call in with your question or comments to Ms. Herron, or scroll down to the comment section during or after the show.
Today's show spotlights host Dr. Cecile Forte and a special book that's close to her heart as a mother and mother-in-law. She thought it was high time to redefine the mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship through a unique approach of letters written from mothers-in-law to daughters-in-law instead of following the traditional self-help/family relationship books with rules and guidelines to bridge the gap. In Dear Daughter-in-Law: A Mother-In- Law's Promise, she appealed to mothers-in-law around the country to share their insights in a positive expressive way. The power of the participants’ words in the letters they’ve written bear witness to her theory of ultimate feminism.
Dear Daughter-In-Law: A Mother-In-Law’s Promise, a collection of letters written to prospective, current and long time daughters-in-law by their mother-in-laws as a way to celebrate the beauty and meaning of family between and because of women. More importantly the tone is one of hope, love and family unity.
Jamaica may be synonymous with reggae, but if you ask Marlene Wright Evans, that’s just the tip of the tropical iceberg. “In January we started off with a jazz festival. And last year we had Celine Dione. That was our biggest-ever concert. People are still talking about it,” the Jamaica Urban Transit scheduler tells Carter Elite Travel host Lulu Carter. “This year we’re havin’ a fashion week, a kite festival, a health expo. Also theatre—we’re havin’ special shows in honor of our 50th anniverary. Best of all, we go to the market every morning and buy the freshest food—real Jamaican cooking that you won’t get in a hotel or on the street.”
Many mother's celebrated Mother's day on Sunday. Today's show spotlights host Dr. Cecile Forte a mother and mother-in-law decided it was time to redefine the mother-in-law/daughter-in-law relationship using a unique approach instead of traditional self-help/family relationship books with rules and guidelines to bridge the gap.
