Emily Hahn is the daughter of Mexican immigrants, a wife, the mother of four adult children, a grandmother of four grandchildren, a retired AT&T Sales Executive, and founder and publisher of Mariposa Magazine.
Emily created Mariposa Magazine because she understands the struggles and hardships that many of you face. As a child she had to learn a new language and culture; she grew up in a very dysfunctional home; experienced abandonment; divorce; raised four kids; and through a great deal of hard work, Emily was able to rise to the top in a very competitive and stressful career. None of it was easy, but through it all she learned a great deal.
Mariposa Magazine is a bilingual publication and it is the only magazine targeting Hispanic women devoted to informing and encouraging Latinas in their efforts to build a better life and community.
So that’s what the magazine is about – Latina success stories, reflections about life, plus a bunch of other stuff that will inform, entertain, inspire, or just plain crack you up!
Emily believes God is very real and feels this is a terrific country. She stands on the conviction that our determination, focus, and faith make dreams come true.

Lashanta Charles was born and raised in the small town of Orangeburg, SC. She has always been an avid reader of all genres, but Urban/ African American Fiction has always been her true love and is what inspired her to pursue a writing career. In high school, she began letting her classmates read the short stories that she would write and based off of their feedback, her passion for writing pushed her to become a published author. Through trial and error, she has developed a unique writing style that she fully embraces. She penned her first official novel, Lovely Lies, in 2013 and is currently working on the sequel.
Currently she lives in Waynesville, MO, with her husband and two children. She is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in English at Drury University and also serving in the US Army. Her hobbies include spending time with family, traveling, eating, and of course, writing. Her motto is “strive to excel, not to equal.”
Mariposa Urbana is an upcoming author and often refers to herself as "the mistress of the pen". She has had a passion for writing since she could first pick up a pen and began writing poems and short stories at the age on nine. Once she began to take writing seriously she 'became a new woman' and the persona Mariposa Urbana was born. She chose the pen name Mariposa Urbana because "you can take a butterfly to Paris, Rome, or L.A. but at the end of the day it is still just a butterfly. Its surroundings may change but it never will. Besides being an author, wife and mother Mariposa is also a student in college pursuing an associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies.

As a society, when we think of rape or sexual abuse we are likely to assume that the victims are female and the perpretrators are male. That is a gross misconception. There are many more female perpretrators and male victims than most of us are aware of.
Today's special guest Donald B. Jeffries, President/Executive Director and founder of Mariposa Men’s Wellness Institute, a nonprofit focused on the promotion of men's emotional wellness through education and training, is here to discuss the cultural blindness that exists concerning the prevalence of male sexual abuse and the profound negative effects this abuse has on male victims.
Researchers have found that 1 in 6 men (a modest estimate) have been sexually abused before the age of 18. And alarming statistics show that women can and do sexually abuse and assault adult men, though it rarely gets reported. The unfortunate truth is that because males simply aren’t allowed to be victims (or at least not allowed to be seen as such), they are are often more emotionally damaged than females by society’s refusal or reluctance to accept their victimization.
The goal of this show is to raise awareness of the prevalence of male sexual abuse, thereby raising the level of help, compassion, and healing that is available to these victims.
This will be a very powerful show. Be sure to save the date and tune in .

If you're like most people, your email inbox is teeming with messages you haven't had a chance to get to, or that you aren't deleting because you're afraid you might need the information they contain down the road. An out-of-control inbox like this can create stress and distraction, robbing you of the focus you need to get things done on a day-to-day basis.
Bonnie Shay, a professional organizer with Mariposa Creative Solutions, talks with Ellen Rogin in this edition of AdvisorRadio about simple methods you can apply today that will cut your inbox down to size and organize it in such a way that the information your emails provide will work for on your own terms, instead of working against you with interruption and distraction.
