Managing Madrid Podcast 2015-16 Season, Episode 1

    in Soccer

We're baaaaaaack! Gabe Lezra and Josh Zeitlin are back with the first episode of the 2015-2016 Managing Madrid podcast season. Real Madrid made some moves during the offseason--though not as many as some would have liked. The guys are here to chat coaching changes--really, Rafa Benítez?! ¯\_(?)_/¯ --player acquisitions (from Asensio and Vallejo to Kovacic and Danilo and even style changes. They're both worried about the direction the club is headed, though they are optimistic about some of the acquisitions. Listen on to find out exactly how they feel about certain aspects of Real Madrid's circumstances.

The guys then transition, chatting about Madrid's disappotinting 0-0 draw to open the season against Sporting Gijón. What went wrong for los blancos? Is this just an anomalous result? Or is it the beginning of a worrying tred for Rafa Benítez (ugh ¯\_(?)_/¯) and company? And what exactly is going on with the offense?

We apologize for the timing of the show--ideally we would have gotten it up earlier, but we've had some technical issues. Additionally, we're sorry for not being around this summer--Gabe took the New York State Bar Exam, the qualifying test for becoming an attorney in New York, and Josh applied for and was accepted into Medical school. So yeah, not the easiest couple months. On the bright side, this is the first of a two-part Managing Madrid Podcast, and in the second part we'll talk David De Gea, Madrid's crushing victory over Betis, and the magic of James Rodriguez.

Managing Madrid Podcast: Should We Be Worried About Real Madrid's Form?

    in Soccer

Gabe Lezra, Bozz and Mike Platania are back to chat everything Real Madrid! On this week's episode, the guys chat about Madrid's uninspiring draw with Málaga at the Bernabéu. Is this draw indicative of something larger--a pattern of focusing too much on Cristiano Ronaldo's scoring in detriment to the team? Or maybe a general lack of offensive creativity?--or is it merely bad luck, a blip in an otherwise strong beginning of the season?

Additionally, the guys break down Rafa's tactical choices agaisnt Malaga, and discuss what the Spanish coach should tell the players after that match. They geek out about Luka Modric and his countryman Mateo Kovacic, and conclude with some previews--first Malmo (just kidding, they don't actually have much to say about that) and then Atleti.

    Managing Madrid Podcast: Season Recap

    in Soccer

Gabe Lezra, Josh Zeitlin and Bozz recap Real Madrid's disappointing 2014-2015 campaign, taking a look at each part of the team--from the underwhelming defense, to the sporadically brilliant midfield and forward lines. What went wrong for Real Madrid this year? What went right? Who is to blame? All this and more this week.

In addition, the guys take a bunch of listener questions and reflect on the state of the club going forward. Will Rafa Benitez be a good manager for the Whites? And what areas should Madrid target in the next transfer window?

And finally, they reflect on the recent FIFA implosion, with some appropriately vitriolic words for (now ex-!!!!) FIFA president Sepp Blatter.

Managing Madrid Podcast 2015-16 Episode 2

    in Soccer

It's part 2, and Gabe Lezra, Bozz and Mike Platania are back to break down everything that wasn't mentioned in the first preview episode! Gabe admits that he was a bit harsh on Rafa Benitez ¯\_(?)_/¯ in the first show--but he won't retract it!--and allows Bozz and Mike to push back on some of his criticism. That being said, the overwhelming negativity isn't entirely transformed into positivity, however, as the guys break down a bunch of Benitez's mis-steps, the De Gea fiasco, and Madrid's prospects moving forward.

Transitioning, the guys take a look at Madrid's 5-0 thrashing of Real Betis in the Bernabéu, praising James Rodriguez, Gareth Bale and the entire squad for looking very strong. Additionally, they get down and dirty talking about the strategy the club is taking, the transfer policy, and generally the ideas going into the club this season.

They end by taking your questions, breaking down many of the angles listeners brought up on Twitter and via email.

Cafecito Break - Tips For Managing Fear

    in Spirituality

Welcome to our virtual living room space with your hosts Rosangel Perez and Ruthie Guten.

Our topic today.  Tips for Managing Fear

Fear keeps us focused on the past or worried about the future. If we can acknowledge our fear, we can realize that right now we are okay. Right now, today, we are still alive, and our bodies are working marvelously. Our eyes can still see the beautiful sky. Our ears can still hear the voices of our loved ones. - Thich Nhat Hanh

Managing Madrid Podcast: Eating Crow, Praising Keylor and Hating Pitstains

    in Soccer

Gabe Lezra and Josh Zeitlin are back and ready to eat crow--after Real Madrid's initial 0-0 draw, they were really down on the team's chances this season. Well, since then Madrid has gone 3-0-0 with an incredible 16-0 goal differential. Well then! The guys haven't been happier to be proven wrong (so far). They discuss the Espanyol, Granada and Shakhtar matches, revel in Cristiano's brilliance and Keylor's dominance, and take some questions. Finally, they wail and gnash teeth about Madrid's GOD AWFUL away kits. Seriously. #PitStains.
