TREATMENT and RECOVERY: War Stories (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly)

    in Self Help

Show Topic:  Traditionally, the recovery community has frowned upon the telling of War Stories, and with good reason. We're not fond of clients glorifying past negative behaviors and prefer that they focus on the present, and also their future. However, in honor and memoriam, of former OCG employee, and in celebration of what would've been his 52nd birthday today, we on behalf of the late Great Joe Williams, will suspend that tradition and tell a few select War Stories, that all have a Moral of the Story, in line with our recovery values

How do the 12 steps relate to yoga and recovery?

    in Self Help

There is getting to be a lot of BUZZ about yoga and recovery, yet does it really work?  AND WHY??

Every Monday I teach yoga as a volunteer at a men's rehabilitation facitlity in Shelton Washington.  To quote a wonderful author " they came to scoff, remained to pray".  Each man has become profoundly empowered and changed by the work.

I will be sharing how you can put more yoga into your recovery, and how yoga will strengthen your resolve to stay sober with joy and peace.

Building Blocks of Recovery radio is heard every Monday at 3:30 PST PM on Blodtalkradio.com

TREATMENT and RECOVERY: Relationships, and why it's the #1 Relapse Trigger!

    in Self Help

Show Topic:  In no other area of our lives do we experience the full range of feelings than in our intra and inter-personal relationships with others. From extreme joy to extreme sadness. Inability to manage, cope, and deal with these feelings, as persons in various stages of recovery, can have a negative result, which can include a relapse episode. Is there any way to preempt this? Is there anyway to intervene?

In the latest edition of the Recovery Radio Show host David Gerber interviews Michael Boccia about Step 9. Making amends is one of the more recognizable of the 12 steps. Listen as David and Michael simplify Step 9 for both the average listener as well as those engaged in recovery.

    Managing Madrid Podcast: Season Recap

    in Soccer

Gabe Lezra, Josh Zeitlin and Bozz recap Real Madrid's disappointing 2014-2015 campaign, taking a look at each part of the team--from the underwhelming defense, to the sporadically brilliant midfield and forward lines. What went wrong for Real Madrid this year? What went right? Who is to blame? All this and more this week.

In addition, the guys take a bunch of listener questions and reflect on the state of the club going forward. Will Rafa Benitez be a good manager for the Whites? And what areas should Madrid target in the next transfer window?

And finally, they reflect on the recent FIFA implosion, with some appropriately vitriolic words for (now ex-!!!!) FIFA president Sepp Blatter.

Why is food so important to recovery? ( Also does the alcohol really cook out?)

    in Self Help

This is one of the most controversial issues in recovery, what to eat.  I cannot tell you how many people will argue one way or another about whether alcohol cooks out of the food or not.  Another point of controversy is do certain foods cause triggers? ( like avocados and raisins).  We will be talking about foods and how we can use foods to strengthen both our recovery and our health.

Join me at 3:30 PM PST on blogtalkradio.com.  I am excited to talk about this and any other recovery question you may have.  You can email your questions at buildingblocksofrecovery@gmail.com and I will answer them on the show.

    Until next week, Namaste.

TREATMENT and RECOVERY: The Therapeutic Community (TC) Part 1 of 2

    in Self Help

Show Topic:  The everyday goals of the TC are compassion, achievement, discipline, and accountability / responsibility achieved through community life based on a social learning model, and created in formal and informal settings. The beliefs that are essential to the TC are that a person can change, and that a group can foster this change.  The individual must at some point take responsibility, but going through the motions is ok as a stopgap measure until the beliefs are integrated. We'll discuss the five core concepts of the TC and the many tools used to facilitate them.
