Sisters In The Spirit - May 05, 2016
BEAUTIFUL CHRISTIAN SISTER By Maya Angelou
'A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ
That a man should have to seek Him first to find her.'
When I say.... 'I am a Christian' I'm not shouting 'I'm clean living,'
I'm whispering 'I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven.'
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.
When I say.. 'I am a Christian' I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible, but God believes I am worth it.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I still feel the sting of pain...
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.
When I say... 'I am a Christian' I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow!

Texas-bred musical powerhouse, KRISTYN HARRIS, is noted for her shimmering vocals, solid swing rhythm guitar style, unique songwriting, award winning yodel, and captivating stage presence. At 21 years, she is a 2-time recipient of the Western Music Association Female Performer of the Year, (2014, 2015) and is the youngest in history to receive this award. She was also named 2013 Academy of Western Artists Female Vocalist of the Year. Her singing has been praised as "timeless" with "the warmth and power of Texas sunshine".
Kristyn, though not raised in a musical household, began playing and singing at age 14 when she felt strongly inspired to pick up a guitar - and it has rarely left her hands since. Finding an instant (and enduring) passion, she launched into a headlong pursuit of music, especially attracted to the swing chordsmanship, alluring melodies, ranching themes and vintage arrangements that cornerstone western swing and cowboy music (later, throwing in bits of country, 1940s big band, gypsy jazz, and traditional folk song influences to her music, and building a gospel repertoire). Somewhere along the way it became her career path.
Breast cancer survivor and filmmaker Cheryl Ash-Simpson joins your national award-winning family radio talk show Let's Talk America with Host Shana Thornton to share her amazing life journey. Formed in the late 60s at Detroit's Pershing High School, Enchantment became one of the most enjoyable but underrated groups of the late 70s and early 80s. Consisting of lead singer Emanuel "EJ" Johnson, Bobby Green, Mickey Clanton, Joe Thomas and Dave Banks, Enchantment was for many years a local favorite, playing gigs in the Detroit area while hoping to ultimately score a record contract.
Enchantment had its first big break in 1976, as the group signed with the Roadshow label and recorded a debut album with young producer (and future Motown executive) Michael Stokes.
Enchantment's debut album, "Enchantment", boasted two top ten R&B hits, "Sunshine" and the beautiful ballad, "Gloria," both written by E.J. Johnson.
As we enter the second decade of the new millennium, Enchantment continues to perform in multi-group Soul Music shows around the world.
While their time topping the R&B charts was brief, Enchantment certainly made an impact with a string of lush, extremely well performed songs that still sound great nearly four decades after the group's peak!
Today's guest is Shelby Parchman, Director of Programs for Sunshine Enterprises. We will follow up on what has happened over the past several months since he was last on the show. Not only will we look at some of Sunshine Enterprises' success stories, but Shelby will share more lessons learned from his work in the entrepreneurial trenches. He will also discuss ways nonprofits can think outside of the box and how nonprofits can invest their time and resources to reap maximum rewards. Finally, he will discuss ways nonprofits can add value to existing models.
