The Military Spouse Show
Our guest, Dan Blanchard, is an two-time Junior Olympian Wrestler, and two-time Junior Olympian Wrestling Coach who grew up as a student-athlete. Dan admits that as a youth he was more of an athlete than a student. Since then, Dan has successfully completed twelve years of college and has earned seven degrees. He teaches Social Studies in Connecticut's largest inner-city high school. In addition, Dan is a consultant for the University of Connecticut's Connecticut Writing Project and had worked with the American Federation of Teachers. Dan has authored of several teen leadership books, Feeling Lucky?, Feeling Good, and has just added another book to the Granddaddy's Secrets series, Feeling Strong!
As an educator, author, and speaker Dan feels that it is his duty to positively influence our youth every chance that he gets! He lives with his wife, Jennifer, their five children, and family dog, Daisy and has taken some time out to share his wisdom with our military spouse audience.
Elaine Blanchard is a storyteller, writer, actor and teacher. She tells stories and engages listening audiences in sharing their own stories. “Stories build bridges,” Elaine says. “When the story ends and the teller’s voice is silenced, the connection made between the listener and the story lives on.” Elaine gathers people in homeless shelters, prisons, re-entry programs, service centers for people living with HIV and AIDS, adults living with disabilities, senior centers, retreat centers, civic organizations, schools and churches. “Everyone has a story to tell. When we lift up and value every voice in our community, we increase healing and hope for everyone. By listening to the stories of our neighbors’ lives we break down stereotypes and increase mutual understanding and respect.” A registered nurse, Elaine listened for twenty-five years to the stories that patients told. A writer, Elaine’s collection of Bible stories, Help Me Remember, was published and recorded by Pilgrim Press in 2005. She has written and performed two one-woman shows, “For Goodness Sake,” a story about her experiences with racism in a southern religious home and “Skin and Bones,” a story about her struggle to live well in the body she has been given. Elaine teaches “The Art of Storytelling” at Memphis College of Art and she teaches “The Preacher as Storyteller” at Memphis Theological Seminary.

During their time together, they talked about life, leadership, business and many other insights from Ken's vast leadership and business experience. As we celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, we thought it would be right to rebroadcast this interview, which was one of the best from this year's excellent crop. So enjoy and Happy Fourth of July!
