Hybrid Jazz From Trish Hennessey - with Harvey Mason!

    in Music

When you contemplate the illustrious career of Harvey Mason, your mind HAS to be blown.  Born and raised in Atlantic City, young Harvey absorbed the vibes of the great musicians THERE - and showed so much promise on drums that he was playing with Duke Ellington and Errol Garner in the 60's.  Early in his recording career, there he was - up front and center with Blue Note Records. And on Columbia: Please go check out Herbie Hancock and The Headhunters for a refresher course in freshly fused Jazz :)

The associations that this consummate first-call musician has made through five decades is staggering.  Because, quite simply, HE is.  Nathan East has shared space and stages with The Mase for 25 years or so (Fourplay's "Silver" just dropped) and he firmly suggests that drummers of ANY note studied Harvey Mason in order to find their own style.  He was THAT distinctive THAT early in his journey.

We dare you to find another legendary drummer who has been involved with more Gold and Platinum recording sessions than our guest.  Awards, accolades, nods from NARAS and "Modern Drummer."  Over 150 motion picture soundtracks.  A regular fixture at the Oscars each year.  And that long relationship with Fourplay cannot be stressed enough.  When you're with a successful musical unit for 25 years, that's cause for celebration!

As bandmates Nathan, Chuck Loeb, Bob James, and Harvey prepare for a holiday run at the Blue Note in New York, our friend wanted to take the time - during this Thanksgiving week - to express his gratitude for all that his fans have given him. How beautiful that NEW fans and fellow artists got together for his album last year.  And how wonderful that life-long "brothers" are banding together again right before Christmas.  How fortunate are we to visit with Harvey again?  You already KNOW :)

During that time several important complaints were filed by many Black Americans concerning the discrimination and affects of Fraud in these many Consolidated Planned Programs under HHS,DOJ, SSA and NH,  both during and after my employment. these complaints involved Public Officials, involving retaliation for reporting the theft and stealing  of Billions of dollars and most were Black and Latin, organizations supposed to be helping the Black and Latin community, but a lot were and are our Elective Officials, this is a discussion that many Voiceless have been denied a voice,  here' the Facts about Source America, Maximus Inc, Ticket to Work Program, Pass Program, Ability Program and Consolidated Plan Fraud will be discussed and how this has hurt Black_n_America, and how the response's from the Black community has harmed the Black Community..

Ep.43: What We Say vs. What We Do - The Relationship Between Words and Actions

    Call-in:  (646) 688-8360

It isn't want we say or think that defines us, but what we do. - Jane Austen

Words are what we "say." Actions are what we "do." Sometimes our words and actions do always match up. We are all guilty of saying one thing and yet, somehow, doing something totally different. Hey, it happens to the best of us, right. What we say is irrelevant. What we do is who we are. So how do we get our words and actions to align? This is what the Warrior Sisters World Changers will be discussing on this week's episode of the Southern Warrior Sister Tribe Radio Show along with:

Do the things we repeatedly do define who we are?
How do we distinguish between priorities, desires and wishes?
What we say vs. What we mean?
What role does social media play?
    And much more!

    Be sure to join us!

    Ep.42 Heart & Soul: A Survivor's Story - Chelsey-Marie Dobson Hamley

    in Women

    Ep.42 Heart & Soul: A Survivor's Story - Chelsey-Marie Dobson Hamley

    Call-in # (646) 668-8360

As we come to the close of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October), we wanted to really lift the veil on this subject and continue to expose the secrecy behind it.  Most Domestic Violence victims don't want anyone to know they are going through it, so they allow the stigma of guilt and shame to shroud them. There are many faces of Domestic Violence, including our very own Princess Fumi Hancock and myself, Marlas Triplett Sells.  We are now seeing an increase in the number of Men who are victims as well.  Domestic Violence is not a gender-specific topic any longer.

On this week's episode, we have invited Chelsey-Marie Dobson Hamley to share her story of survival with us.  She is no longer a victim, but she is a true Survivor. Chelsey is a mom, an aspiring singer and she's on the verge of completing her GED.  Chelsey's story is not unlike the countless stories we've heard before or even shared ourselves.  But Chelsey has a tenacity and determination that you will find refreshing. She is finding her voice again. Her heart is to share her story to help others now.

Please join us for another exciting episode of The Southern Warrior Sister Tribe Radio Show hosted by Princess Fumi Hancock, Marlas Triplett Sells and Maxine Holt Donaldson.  You won't want to miss it.

Hybrid Jazz From Trish Hennessey - with Pianist/Composer Romain Collin!

    in Music

When we last spoke to the inside/out beautiful Romain Collin, he was immersed in another project. That's the correct term: immersed.  When listening to the way he offers music, there is the distinct feeling that Romain had nothing else on his mind but living the chords he was playing.  You can almost see him: eyes closed, smiling at memories - or hope from an anticipated time, savoring the life captured in five minutes worth of piano resuscitation.

Our guest just celebrated his birthday.  He's young - not yet 40 - but Romain has lived much longer than that.  The echoes of other times linger in his songs.  Beautifully scary.  Right on time for Halloween :)  We'll have to ask if that event is celebrated in France, the country of his birth.  What the French celebrate for SURE: education.  And a beloved transplant knows all about that.  At Berklee first (scholarship), he was then accepted at the Monk Institute (another scholarship!).  During that time, he was fortunate to be able to tour with two key legends who oversee admissions into the school: Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter.  He also studied with Ron Carter, Charlie Haden and Mulgrew Miller.

2008 saw his debut "stick" with Jazz critics.  "The Rise and Fall of Pipokuhn" created a reverberation throughout the community - and Romain was invited to join the esteemed Marian McPartland on her popular "Jazz Piano" radio show.  In 2012, this "visionary" (NPR) joined us on the show to tell us about "The Calling" - which resulted in more praise from those who don't tend to do so.  Orchestral film scoring - and playing with Christian McBride and Lauryn Hill (among others) - kept him busy every single day.  But his eye was on a third album - and here it is.  Join us for a discussion of "Press Enter!" 10/29 :)
