Tonight a very special Blueshirt Underground Radio, as we celebrate five great years of bringing you the best New York Rangers radio show on the planet.
We'll replay some of our favorite show moments, re-visit some of our classic bits, and of course, take your calls. It's a celebration you won't want to miss, as Blueshirt Underground Radio turns 5
Enjoying their air conditioning, Mike "the Buzz-saw" Asti and George "the Howitzer" Gerbo bring you another edition of the Howitzer and Buzz-saw Show.
In perhaps the most asinine (every sense of the word) NBA Finals in history, is 2013 revenge likely for the Spurs? What has been the biggest issues for Miami? Can San Antonio keep winning without more production from their stars? Mike does what he does best, defend those no one else is defending. It's his public service. This week, LeBron James and Dwayne Wade are his clients. They've been getting criticism, but did maybe LeBron and Wade actually handle themselves well under unprofessional circumstances by reporter Bobby Ramos?
Henrik Lundqvist reached his first career Stanley Cup Final. Unfortunately for him, he ran into an Los Angeles Kings buzz-saw. With a stranglehold on the series, does New York have any chance of a comeback? How can this Kings edition be compared to 2012's championship team? Where does the 2014 Los Angeles Hockey Club rank among the great squads of recent memory?
MLB already has its asinine debate topic of the season. Gregory Polanco has reached the show! With it being more than just a cup of coffee (pun very much intended), should Polanco have been with the Pirates sooner? What are the conspiracy reasons as to why Pittsburgh waited to call up one of their prized possessions?
Those never criticized. Those who are beloved. These are the people Mike can't stand. Despite past failures and a scandal, Phil Mickelson is often left alone by the media. Did Phil prepare us for another disappointing major performance with some arrogant comments?
No matter the conditions, they never cramp. The Howitzer and Buzz-saw conquer sports radio, one day, at a time....
After an entertaining, controversial, and of course, asinine playoffs, the Stanley Cup will be lifted. And we have Los Angeles and New York as an added bonus.
Mike "the Buzz-saw" Asti is joined by David Malinowski, of Michigan Daily and the Hockey Guys, as they go over the media market collision for the oldest trophy in sports. Will the Kings keep their swag and win another championship? Will the Rangers earn their first title in 20 years? Can the Kings win, even not at their best? Has Jonathan Quick become overrated? What needs to happen for New York to accomplish the upset? In his first Stanley Cup Final appearance, how much pressure is on Henrik Lundqvist? What can a Hollywood vs Broadway fight for the Stanley Cup do for the National Hockey League?
Mike cheers his Lundqvist man crush on. David hopes his initial Kings pick is right. The buffoons don't understand hockey advanced stats.
One team will conquer enough to be worthy of Lord Stanley's Cup. Regardless, one broadcaster (cough, the Buzz-saw), always conquers sports radio, one day, at a time....
An exciting few weeks are ahead as the NHL Entry Draft is this coming weekend and free agency is soon to follow. The season may be over, but there will still be plenty to talk about in preparation for next year. Brian Bobal and Adam Rickert will preview the draft and free agency. Both of them will also give their opinions and predictions for the NHL Awards coming up this weeks as well as a brief mock draft for the first ten picks of the first round. Don't miss out on all of the exciting things to come this offseason and get your summer hockey fix on Top Shelf Hockey on eDraft Radio! 8:30 PM ET/5:30 PM PT
If your teams wear black and silver, chances are that they may have won their league championships this weekend.
(Note that it says black and silver, not silver and black, so hold onto those Oakland Raiders jokes for the fall, k? K.)
On The Exchange, Sumit and Jason revisit championship weekend as both the Los Angeles Kings and San Antonio Spurs took home the crowns in the NHL and NBA. They'll talk about the aftermath of one of the most exciting "gentlemen's sweeps" in Stanley Cup Final history between the Kings and the New York Rangers; including a glance at the offseason picture for both teams. They'll flip over to the hardwood and the much-discussed post-NBA Finals world we're now in after the Spurs dispatched the Miami Heat. They'll also add some thoughts on the playoff fandom in both leagues as well.
Of course, it wouldn't be right if there weren't any words on the late Tony Gwynn, who passed away this past Monday.
Come through The Exchange in the chat room, on Twitter (@skd_thExchange, @asportsscribe) and on the phone lines at 347-202-0247.
Don't forget to add The Exchange to your favorites on Stitcher Radio!
Well, hockey season has come to an end, and our New York Rangers hung in there as best they could. A disappointing end to a phenomenal year, one that Ranger fans will not soon forget.
So as we say on the show, "Hey, wha happun?" We'll talk about what went wrong in the Finals, and we will begin the look ahead into 2014-15.
As always, we'll be taking your calls, and interacting with you in the live chat that goes on throughout the show. There's only one place for summer coverage of the New York Rangers, and that's on Blueshirt Underground Radio.
The Los Angeles Kings are the 2014 Stanley Cup Champions, and Brian Bobal and Adam Rickert are here to recap a short but incredibly intense Stanley Cup Final. They will also take a look ahead to the offseason and answer several key questions surrounding pending unrestricted free agents, vacant head coaching positions, names on the trading block, the NHL Entry Draft and much more. The hockey season may be over until October, but we are still here for your summer hockey fix! Check out Top Shelf Hockey on eDraft Radio!
