LOTL The Comfort Zone Welcomes Stephanie Spruill, debuts new CD 'IT’S A JAZZ DAY

    in Music

This multi-faceted force of vocal nature brings to her first true JAZZ album an extensive history as a session and touring vocalist and stellar reputation as a vocal and artist development coach and author of “17 Points To Longevity in Show Business.” Like her expansive career, Spruill engages many different influences – including R&B, CONTEMPORARY URBAN JAZZ, TRAD JAZZ and BRAZILIAN – to create a musical journey that allows her to tap into her full vocal range. Her splendid mix of originals and classics includes a sassy, brass-infused “Fever,” an intimate “Round Midnight” and the moody, poetic title track, featuring Brenda Russell and Patrice Rushen, which cleverly weaves decades of jazz legends into a celebration of the art form. When you’ve got “A Metheny morning and a Whalum afternoon…Tea with Thelonious and a Yellowjacket Moon,” you know IT’S A JAZZ DAY! ~JONATHAN WIDRAN

This amazing cd has covered a spectrum of sounds from seductive Jazz, the classics, to exhilarating soul, with an all-star cast of A list players. Jeff   Lorber   and Stephanie wrote hits---that are featured on this album---"Nothing Last Forever” and “Sweet Control” for Jon Lucien. Stephanie had major success with “I’ll Be Good to You” for   Najee   on his Tokyo Blue album.
“It’s a Jazz Day”  featuring pianists Patrice Rushen and Brenda Russell wrote and sang background on It’s a Jazz Day.

Stephanie's band has a keen sense of musical brilliance as well as an undeniable knack for accompanying her jazz compositions
Here is an CD that rocks the soul, uplifts the spirit and makes you feel like you are listening to a live concert.

Words from the Well with Wendy L. Harvey

    in Family

The manifestation of God's given vision came to pass in the form of a ministry called the Ark Christian Worship Center.

After serving as a deacon at Bethel Deliverance International Church and now serving on the Board of Pastors at the Deliverance Evangelistic Church,

Rev. Charles M. Jones accepted the call on his life and was ordained a pastor and ventured out to begin the church affectionately known as “The Ark.”

The heartbeat of “The Ark” lied within the passion of seeing souls saved and building real relationship in Christ within the community in which it resides.

Often using the words family and community interchangeably, Pastor Jones believes that through the Word of God, the family and the community can

be saved. Starting with his own blended family, his beautiful wife Laural, their 8 children and three grandchildren he has made this commitment as an example first for many to follow. Currently he is the appointed Pastor of New Umbria Baptist Church in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. He is a 2014 recipient of the Lucien E. Blackwell Guiding Lights in the Community Award as well as a Board member of the Blue Bell Hill Civic Association for Wissahickon, Germantown/ W. Mt Airy.

Pastor Jones is experienced in preaching and teaching the Word of God, ministry leadership, care program for congregation and community. Enjoy developing and implementing strategies for discipleship training within the Church and outreach/ evangelism in the community. He holds a record of success in cultivating spiritual growth and unity among the congregation through preaching and teaching the Word of God in teaching Sunday school, small groups, Evangelism and Discipleship.

Goins Book, Author Cynthia Goins Hoelescher

    in Books

Cynthia Goins Hoelescher, an author, historian and descendant of the Murchison/Goins family. Cyndie will share details of her familial ties and her upcoming chapter of the Goins Book. Her lines are from Pocket Creek, North Carolina. These include Daniel Goins (1824-1907) who married Margaret Goins (1839-1891) and descendents. Rebecca Goins (1829-1921) who married Benjamin Goins. Margaret Goins was the daughter of William and Kissiah Sinclair Goins whose lines left Moore County after the Civil War. William and Kissiah died in Indiana, but their children may be found in Kentucky, Missouri and one child took the Oregon Trail and settled in Pitt, Oregon. Daniel and Rebecca Goins are children of Leah Goins (1790-1864). Leah had at least one other son, John Goins who immigrated to Texas in the 1850's shortly before Leah's brother, William Goyens, Jr died in Nacogdoches, Texas. Also from Pocket Creek, Moore County, NC are the Rosewood Massacre ancestor Goinses, Ed, Martin and Lucien Goins who learned turpentine distillery from the Murchison plantation owners (thought to be the White contributors to these illegitimate children of Leah Goins). Leah and her daughter Rebecca Goins were labeled as Croatan Indians in vital records of Moore County, NC and their descendents have been elected Lumbee council members.
