The Nightshift returns with Perry Steele

    in Politics

In a few days, we will all have an opportunity to peacefully inflict a major psychological blow on the rapidly coalescing police state by the simple but powerful act of refusing to play along with the absurd pantomime on the 4th of July that we live in an even nominally free country – one with the rule of law, an operative Constitution and respect for individual rights. One that isn’t a thugocracy.
We can turn our backs on the flag. Decline to participate when urged to cheer and sing. No fireworks. No barbeque.
We can sit down – and bow our heads. This is an opinion of some people who are disturbed about the course of this government.Could this be how you feel.Tonight we'll discuss this and the Zimmerman trial as well.
Starting late but still on time, and you need to grab you a cold one while you celebrate tonight.Somebody asked what the 4th of July means to you,the answer was a 4 day weekend.Have fun be safe.

What Forgiveness Is Not: Play Acting For Show

    in Religion

This childish pantomime of "forgiveness" often carries into adulthood as a superficial substitute for the real thing. We think by "saying so", it is so. But is God fooled by such? Is there ever a place where we can escape His penetrating gaze? Does He not see the secret meditation of revenge or the bitter hatred behind the nice smile? Since when is He impressed with mere words when hearts do not match?
Mark 7:6 (Phi) Jesus replied, "You hypocrites, Isaiah described you beautifully when he wrote: 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.' These teachings are but rules made by men."

    in Entertainment

Artist Spotlight: Join PRS radio producer Alex on Monday as she interviews Rabbit aka Bunny Bennett from Steam Powered Giraffe, as well as The Spine aka David Bennett and The Jon aka Jon Sprague, the providers of our music on PRS Radio.  Steam Powered Giraffe is a San Diego-based musical pantomime troupe featuring robot imitation with song. The robots of Steam Powered Giraffe are like nothing you've ever seen. The malfunctioning joke-spewing metal men play a collection of original Vaudeville inspired tunes fused with modern flare and executed in a super-sleek, one-of-a-kind performance.  Alex will take the robot apart and learn more about the human below the top hat and behind the goggles and how the paranormal has inspired Bunny.  Alex and Bunny will also talk about the paranormally inspired songs from Steam Powered Giraffe's new studio album, "The 2-Cent Show" and listen to the songs in a paranormal listening party!

    Jamaica– Who Was Jim Russell?

    in Culture

    Jim Russell!
Most senior Kingstonians may know him as Registrar of Births and Deaths. In that position, Jim Russell had a chance to encounter everyone in the parish, in joy or sorrow, and as Civil Registrar of Marriages he met in his Church Street office an endless stream of couples representing every section of society. However, did you know of his theatrical career?
Thanks to the dedicated work of Dr. Joy Lumsden, this week’s ‘labrish’ will highlight his theatre connection before the Pantomime.
    Daily Gleaner, January 2, 1937
“A rollicking company of artistes brought in the New Year right merrily for a goodly sized audience at the Ward Theatre concert yesterday forenoon. There was music, comedy and dancing and a very enjoyable two hours was spent by those who were wise enough to attend. Mr. Jim Russell, the promoter, and his artistes are to be complimented on a very fine show”
If Eric Coverley, Blanche Savage, Granville Campbell, Hugh Ricketts, Louise Bennett, Archie Lewis, Toney Abbleton, and George Moxey bring back memories,be sure to join the Labrish at: 8:00PM Thur:1/26/12 in the Backyard where we, Celebrate, Enlighten, & Preserve the rich diverse culture of: Jamaica ‘Land We Love’.
