Heart Service: A Path to Happiness

    in Relationships

You are listening to Happiness Index and we are continuing our conversation on "Love and Service: Key to Happiness."  Dr. King was clear about  service and its power and how we should serve.  He said, “Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”  He was equally clear that as a Black man he would not hate those who would hate him.  He said, “Let no man pull you so low as to hate him.” He deepen his resolve when he said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”   We are encouraging you to take the high road as you are dealing with difficult issues.  When you are in pain or deeply troubled, find someone to serve and that will lift you up and will give you the strength and the sweetness to bring change for yourself and for others.  Thank you for listening to Happiness Index on Blog Talk Radio.  Join me in this conversation and make the world better for all, call (347) 539-5818.

Happiness Now . . . Choosing Love in the Face of Fear

    in Health

The real power in life is not what happens to us, but rather, how we respond to the circumstances we face . . . a choice of love or fear.

Love inspires us to question fear, keep our heart open, and dive into the stress that is impacting our body, relationships, and the world we share. Love is a personal choice with collective consequences. What do you choose? A life that perpetuates a struggling and suffering or one that inspires a new and fresh breath of hope, dignity, and oneness. Imagine being able to envision beyond what’s currently being seen, listen beyond what’s currently being said, and choose beyond the catastrophic consequences that we as humankind are individually and globally facing. Choosing love requires you to be courageous while you take a compassionate look in the mirror. Join Dr. Darren as he dives into the heart of the matter of choosing love in a world that is facing terrorism.

Heart centered Loving- learning to love yourself!

    in Spirituality

In order to have a happy life you must love yourself first! Mom and dad didn't know how to love themselves, therefore  they couldn't teach you how to love your self. Now it is your job to teach yourself how to love yourself just the way you are. Self-love includes self compassion, self forgiveness, self acceptance, self nurturing, expressing yourself, doing what you love, believing in yourself, saying no etc.. Self-love does not include criticizing yourself, judging yourself, trying to be perfect, not being yourself, saying bad things about yourself, etc. Some actions that you can take to love yourself are: treating yourself like you treat your best friend, keeping a journal, practicing receiving love, learning to say no, and practicing random acts of kindness. Give yourself the greatest gift that you could ever give to yourself by listening to this show and promising yourself that you will take action to love yourself more!

Celebrate Life: A Path to Happiness!

    in Relationships

Welcome to Happiness Index.  We have just celebrated the Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Christmas and now we are celebrating the 2nd day of Kwanzaa, Kujichagulia.   We are 5 days from New Year’s Eve, which is also Kokomon’s birthday and 6 days from New Year’s Day. This is truly a time of celebrations.  Are we happy?  Maybe we can be happy if we observe the values that the Kwanzaa Celebrations reminds us of.  There are seven core values for the seven days of Kwanzaa.  Today as we celebrate let us remember "Kujichagulia”, it asks us to define the world in our own image and interest placing indigenous people and culture at the center of our worldview and social reality. There are seven values of Kwanzaa, beginning with yesterday, Umoja which means unity; Kujichagulia, self-determination; Ujimaa, working together; Ujamaa, supporting each other; Nia, purpose; Kuumba, creativity; and Imani, faith.  We can extend this holiday season to every day of the year with Kwanzaa.  We can celebrate through faith by waking up, walking, eating, knowing that the little things is life is what matters most.  It is all in the way we see life.  Celebrate, be happy!  Thank you for joining us in this very important conversation on celebration as a path to happiness.  Call (347) 539-5818 and share your wisdom on this topic.

Service: A Path to Happiness and Love

    in Relationships

Thank you for joining us on Happiness Index, as we continue to deepen the conversation about service.  The theme for the show today is, Service: A Path to Happiness and Love.   We suggest that if you want happiness and love service is the path to take. You want a better community, then give of yourself. You want a happier life then find someone to serve.  Examples of great leaders are, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Buddha, Muhammad, Jesus, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mother Teresa, Princess Diana to name but a few. All these leaders have one thing in common they served and went beyond a call of duty.  One of the better-known benefits of serving is the impact on the community and the person who is being of service. People who volunteer are the glue that holds a community together.  The beautiful thing about service is that the person who gives of him or herself receives the benefit of giving.  Giving and receiving are the same. As we continue this topic of Service, we will be happy, because we will serve as we encourage you to serve.  The benefits of service:  1. Service connects you to others 2. It helps you to make new friends and contacts 3.  You gain new skills 4.  Be happy find someone and somewhere to serve.  Dr. Martin Luther King said, Everyone has the power for greatness -- not for fame, but greatness, because greatness is determined by service.  Service is a matter of devotion and love!  You can share your wisdom on this topic by calling (347) 539-5818

Celebrate and Be Happy! A Path to Happiness

    in Relationships

Celebrate and Be Happy!  A path to happiness is a choice to be happy.  This is the season of celebrations.  Why do we need to create a season to celebrate when life is a celebration?  When we refer to a celebration we think of a party, social gathering, people coming together, music, food and decoration.  Why do we make it a special gathering?  Is life a special gathering?  We are continuing the theme of celebration, because we are in the season that we celebrate life, the life of Christ, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and the winter solstice.  Why not celebrate every day and every hour?  Oprah Winfrey said, The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.  So you see life is to be celebrated, because it increases as you celebrate.  And Oscar Wilde says, Life is too important to be taken seriously. So let us celebrate, be happy and have fun.  Join the conversation, tune in to A Happiness Index on blog talk radio and call (347) 539-5818.
