In the midst of suffering we make choices. Sometimes very difficult choices. The temptation to adopt a lifestyle of isolation, bitterness, and self-protection is strong. Yet those very choices are what determine whether we will live forever as victims or walk into a thriving life.
When a mother of two sweet teenage girls suddenly finds herself childless, she has every excuse in the world to cut herself off from community and live an angry, defensive life. But Lynn Wagner chooses love. In this miraculous story of hope and faith, Lynn is a shining light for all those who have ever suffered. While her pain has been, and continues to be, incredibly deep, she finds a way to not only live but to thrive. Join us for this amazing, inspiring story and find hope in the midst of your own suffering.

“Did you think you were immune to this? Did you think you could escape without infection? You do all you're able to resist just to avoid the danger of rejection. Memory warns you of the past when it all went wrong. When you think your life is shattered and there's no way to be fixed again, love heals your heart. At a time you least expected, you're alive like you have never been. Love heals your heart.” (Third Day, Love Heals Your Heart) Indeed, love does heal. Yet love requires trust and vulnerability, which can create a conundrum for abuse survivors. Join special guest and spiritual director, Bonnie Wolf as we discuss the way that love heals and the challenges of learning to give and receive that love.

Sometimes the memories are too much to hold inside. Sometimes the pain just gets too big. Medicating our pain as survivors of child sexual abuse is one way to survive.
But as long as we are addicted, we will never thrive. Addiction kills relationships, careers, healing and spiritual growth. Addiction takes the life out of us and returns the destruction of all we hold dear in exchange for killing the pain.
David Pittman, director of Together We Heal, knows both the pain of abuse AND the pain of addiction. And now he knows the joy of helping others get free from both. Join David and Misa as they bring hope for healing from addiction and child abuse.

Believe or not men can be victims of domestic abuse. Why don't we know more about this? Because most men don't report the abuse because they are afraid that their reputation may be at stake. They also don't want to be viewed as weak.
She asked for it...right? She got in his face waving her finger. He had to hit her...right? She pushed him, isn't that cause for him to strike back. Does a man ever have a right to defend himself?

Tonight's special guest is Mary E Graziano from Hamilton, Ontario, a child abuse survivor and member of the NAASCA family. Mary is Assistant Director at Abuse Survivors and Victims United, where she's been pairing up her poetry with the work of artist Michal Madison. She describes herself as an independent advocate for child abuse. She's very active in sometimes "secret" groups on Facebook and a member of Protecting Canadian Children and a member and volunteered at Butterfly Dreams Abuse and Recovery. Ms Graziano is a writer / poet / blogger, writing poetry about child abuse and trying to transmit the message that child abuse is wrong, stressing that we as adults need to be the voices for those who can't speak, the abused and traumatized child-victims. Her BLOG (http://www.nippercats.blogspot.com) is about her own child abuse. She says, "I started writing back in 2008, but now as a survivor I write about children in general." Mary works in an elementary school, assisting in the classroom with a teacher, and is an Educational Assistant for children with special needs. Mary writes, "Helping them do their work, teaching them skills they will need later in life. I have been doing this job for 25 years." and this is showing up as a new job, sorry about that everyone.

Tonight's special guest host is Barbara Ochoa from San Francisco, a returning NAASCA family member who has been with us several times. That's because Barbara (aka Petra Luna) has a special mission, one which we share with her here at NAASCA. Each year for the past three years, Barbara has produced a series of events celebrating what's become known as Male Abuse Awareness Week (MAAW -- the first week of December). Each year, recognizing that young males have an especially tough time even talking about being abused as kids, Barbara reaches out to this frequently undeserved group with videos, music events, dance and special guest appearances (Help4Guys.org). She encourages victims of abuse to seek help, justice and recovery through her music and nonprofit organization, the P.Luna Foundation. Barbara will be joined tonight by her guests Patrick Donaldson and DeWayne Watts. Patrick is engaged in revealing Male Military Spouse abuse issues and manages the web site www.MachoSpouse.com. DeWayne is the author of several books including the novels "The Boy in The Wood" and "David's Mark" and writes a blog at www.DeWayneWatts.com, where one can keep up to date on all his current projects. Join us to discuss these and other issues pertaining to Male Abuse Awareness Week.
