LOBBYING AND DEMOCRACY WITH PAUL WINGER

    in Politics

Despite a technical problem early in the show, you will want to listen to and share this episode of Take Back America for the People.

During candidate Obama's 2008 campaign he pledged reform of the corrupt lobbying practices that have made Congress a tool of corporations and the wealthy rather than a body representing We the People.

Whether from lack of will in the White House or the complacence of a Congress happy content to have their campaigns financed by deep-pocketed special interests, little has been done to curb the influence over Congress of the Jack Abramoffs of the world.

On July 11, Take Back America for the People hosted former lobbyist Paul Winger, Board president of Abolish Corporate Personhood Now.

We discussed the ways in which lobbyists influence legislation, the outsized power of corporate lobbyists compared to public interest nonprofits representing us and union lobbyists paid to represent working Americans.

As usual, we discussed solutions. Much of the show focused on what we can do to end the corruption of the US government by paid lobbyists for all special interest groups that want to have Congress put their interests over those of ordinary Americans.

Take Back America for the People is an educational nonprofit whose mission is to reveal to the American public the true costs of corporate control of the US government.
