Emily, a Toronto native, was first introduced to yoga in New York City where she was studying theater and the art of becoming an anxiety-ridden insomniac! At the time, the thought of Yoga meant slowing down, which meant terrifying and seemed better suited for “hippies” and “tea people”, not she! But after accidentally stumbling into her first class, she was shocked to discover that this “slowing down” was not only the most challenging sweaty work-out she’d ever had, but for the first time in ages, she felt calm. Excited and inspired to learn more, she began her study and practice of Yoga. Emily completed one of Moksha Yoga’s first 800-hour teacher trainings in Thailand where she was lucky enough to study with Susi Hately Aldous, Ted Grand and Jessica Robertson, Frank Boccio, and more. It was on this trip that Emily, Deena and Jess planted the seed of a distant dream to one day open Moksha Yoga LA… Cut to: Years later. Emily now lives in LA, teaches Yoga privately all over LA, is the creator of Yoga Theater for Kids (which she taught in schools, and foster youth programs throughout Los Angeles), has just finished performing her LA debut of her One-woman show…when Deena said something like “Ok, so are you ready to open up Moksha Yoga LA yet now, or what??”, to which she said yes and the rest is history. Emily is grateful to her teachers both present and past such as Annie Carpenter, Kia Miller, Bryan Kest, Gurmukh, Liz Olesky, Jasmine Lieb, the Robertson Family tree, her wonderful meditation mentors, Jeanne Pisano and Ken McLeod and to her students, the greatest teachers of all.
Emily also has a passion for philanthropic work. Within the first two years of being open, Moksha Yoga LA raised over $160,000 for charities around the world. Founder of Sweat for Change has raised $115,000 for Little Kids Rock
BIO: Joe Komar:
Joe discovered his yoga practice after reading a Twitter post about how hot yoga can improve wakeboarding skills. With an athletic background that included years of football, weightlifting, and not nearly enough stretching, Joe stepped into the hot room for the first time simply searching for a way to increase his flexibility and become leaner for his favorite hobby. While hot yoga has helped Joe accomplish that original goal of being a better wakeboarder, there is no way he could have known at that first class how much more it would do for him.Over the next year, Joe found himself coming back to his mat more and more frequently, because yoga was not only changing his body physically, but was also helping him to manage stress and bring balance into his life. Taking on the challenge of living the American dream, While attending a spiritual retreat in Bali (an extremely uncharacteristic activity up to that point), Joe unknowingly started down a new path. Joe learned quickly that letting go and riding the wave is where he experienced true happiness, whether in a literal sense (on his wakeboard) or in a metaphorical sense (through his yoga practice and his approach to life in general). This is exactly what he did when he attended the Moksha teacher training in Brazil. Since returning, Joe has found freedom in living the “yoga life”. Once deepening his involvement with the Moksha community by becoming an instructor, Joe’s continued journey took him to Prince Edward Island in Canada, where he taught at Moksha Yoga Charlottetown and now has brought him Moksha Yoga LA. Feeling fortunate and inspired each day, Joe has realized he is living his own version of the American dream more than ever, sharing his love for yoga and life with all of those around him.
The Sharon McWilliams Show brings you Tammi Baliszewski with Love, Inside Out LOVE that is! No, this is not the Tammy My Love song version from years back with Sandra Dee! This is the real thing----where a wise woman must start first and foremost to manifest love! Tammi will share her book Manifesting Love from the Inside Out and offer the beautiful artistic mandala tool for you to utilize and create the LOVE you really want and deserve! Tammi shares: "As children we were the audience to fairy tales, we were drawn to the magic and believed in it. Prince Charming was the hero, the knight in shining armor who rescued the damsel in distress. In these wonderful stories the prince and princess fall in love and end up living 'happily ever after.' How can we be blamed if this is what we grow up believing and hoping to achieve in adulthood? But what happens after the happily ever after? There is no sequel!" Uh-oh! Now what?
