Today, I’m welcoming Dr. Mary Ann Block back to the show to talk about vaccines and legislation. As of this show (3/27/15), Texas Representative Jason Villalba plans to introduce a bill to eliminate religious and philosophical exemptions to school immunization requirements. Much of this activity, locally and federally, was started by a measles outbreak caused by an “unvaccinated woman at Disneyland”. A bill to eliminate these exemptions has already been introduced in California. We’ll be talking about this sudden interest in changing vaccine laws, and what it could mean to you and your family.

From Indiana to Louisiana right-wing governors are supporting and signing legislation that allows businesses to discriminate against same-sex couples. Pizza Parlors, Florists, Photographers, Beds and Breakfasts, and other business have said they would refuse service, or actually have refused service to same sex couples.
20 states have passed some forms of religious freedom laws - including Connecticut, and Rhode Island - which shocked the bleep out of me. Religious freedom laws are pending in 6 states - North Carolina, Georgia, Hawaii (seriously?), Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada. Similar legislation has failed in 6 states - including Utah, which also surprised me. 18 states, plus Washington, D.C. do NOT have current legislation similar the the RFRA's pending or recently passed.
Do these governors and state legislators understand that states rights cannot usurp a persons' constitutional rights? "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."
I bet you know where I stand on this issue, but I want to know where you stand - and why.
Let's explore the rights - and wrongs of these laws.
I hope you will join me.

Our host Dr Richard Selznick author of School Struggles and The Shut Down Learner tonight discusses the legislation behind Dyslexia.
Dr Selznick's guest is Mrs. Beth Ravelli is a child advocate for dyslexia and children with reading disabilities. Mrs. Ravelli successfully lobbied to have NJ Bill S 2400 voted into law forming the NJ Reading Disability Task Force. She was honored to have been appointed as the sole parent by the NJ Assembly President to be appointed on the NJ Reading disability Task Force. In 2014 after 9 years of advocating with her daughter Samantha, numerous trips to the Education committee, Assembly Floor and Senate Floor they succeeded together with Senator Van Drew and Assemblyman Nelson Albano in passing Bill S-2442 which was signed into law in NJ by Gov. Chris Christi on Jan 16, 2014. This New Dyslexia law now makes it mandatory in NJ public schools to screen for dyslexia, as well as to train teachers in dyslexia.
Imagine if you were subject to all kind of restrictions when you went out in public simply because of your race color or religion. Would you rebel and say "why should I wear handcuffs and leg irons in public when I have done nothing wrong?" I know I would! Well my friend, if you would rebel, if you would stand up and say "that simply isn't right!" then you are against BSL! What is BSL you may ask? Well, during today's show we will be discussing BSL (Breed Specific Legislation, also known as Breed Discriminatory Legislation.) and why this type of law is problem legislation. BSL laws are not just a problem in the US, they are a problem globally.
Some countries have significantly tighter restrictions on certain breeds of dogs than the restrictions we see in the US and Canada. We'll be looking at those restrictions, how they affect dog owners, and how we can all work together to overcome this blatant discrimination of dog breeds that is based purely in ignorance. As always, please feel free to join the conversation by calling (646) 716-6583.
LEGISLATION 0113-15 Sponsored by Honorable Council Delegate Jonathan Hale. A legislation requesting an amendment of the Navajo Business Opportunity Act by making all Navajo enterprises to become a Priority #1 business on the Navajo Nation Source classification.
We will continue our discussion on how it will effect the small Navajo businesses. Is the playing field equal? Especially when the enterprises are subsidized by the Navajo Nation.
What are your thoughts? I will invite sponsor Jonathan Hale and other members of the Resources and Development Committee to discuss this Legislation.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Aheehe.
