Guns in America kill more poeple in America than we realize, yet elected officials are not willing to pass strong legislation to keep weapons away from the people who should not have access to them. Why? There are many reasons including the opposition by the NRA. We will discuss it today.. Join me and Annette Jimenez as we discuss the issue.
Today, I’m welcoming Dr. Mary Ann Block back to the show to talk about vaccines and legislation. As of this show (3/27/15), Texas Representative Jason Villalba plans to introduce a bill to eliminate religious and philosophical exemptions to school immunization requirements. Much of this activity, locally and federally, was started by a measles outbreak caused by an “unvaccinated woman at Disneyland”. A bill to eliminate these exemptions has already been introduced in California. We’ll be talking about this sudden interest in changing vaccine laws, and what it could mean to you and your family.

This weekend hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, will converge on Washington DC to demand "Justice or Else!" At the last Million Man March 20 years ago, many leaders criticized the lack of an agenda for new legislation and said that we should never again have a mass gathering at the nations Capitol without a specific demand for our elected officials in the form of a proposed law to address the problem. What law can we pass that would stop the out of control problem of urban gun violence, both self inflicted and police inflicted, that is resulting in the massive loss of innocent lives?

Sunday Stewart joins Ben Wiggins to continue their non-partisan, evidence-based approach to lowering the rate of gun deaths in the US. The duo also talk about board games they love and don't love, and ask each other why Americans are being such idiots about common core math. (The answer: because we Americans are a lazy nation and we don't like to learn stuff.) Ben also may or may not spring some discussion of Sunday's erstwhile athletic ability.
Join us for an enlightening discussion of Texas and Florida guardianship law with Kevin, Barbara, Dan, Doug, and Candice. We will be discussing laws and bills proposed in TX and FL which have no teeth but actually fortify the well oiled machine to steal, kill and destroy your life. Seriously!
From Indiana to Louisiana right-wing governors are supporting and signing legislation that allows businesses to discriminate against same-sex couples. Pizza Parlors, Florists, Photographers, Beds and Breakfasts, and other business have said they would refuse service, or actually have refused service to same sex couples.
20 states have passed some forms of religious freedom laws - including Connecticut, and Rhode Island - which shocked the bleep out of me. Religious freedom laws are pending in 6 states - North Carolina, Georgia, Hawaii (seriously?), Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada. Similar legislation has failed in 6 states - including Utah, which also surprised me. 18 states, plus Washington, D.C. do NOT have current legislation similar the the RFRA's pending or recently passed.
Do these governors and state legislators understand that states rights cannot usurp a persons' constitutional rights? "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..."
I bet you know where I stand on this issue, but I want to know where you stand - and why.
Let's explore the rights - and wrongs of these laws.
I hope you will join me.
