CUTV News Radio spotlights Janet Stewart's Labour Leadership Team

    in Business

Ottawa, Ontario – The current and future economic playing field requires union members and employers alike to work together toward mutual success. It's time to let go of old thinking: “Us vs. Them.” The modern union must harness the energy and expertise of its members to work more effectively with employers and other partners.

Janet Stewart and the Labour Leadership Team have asserted themselves as “The Change Agents of Choice” for progressive unions. The Labour Leadership Team specializes in working with forward-thinking, partner-minded unions that recognize the value of working collaboratively with employers for mutual success. Janet works with unions to build a customized leadership development program to promote organizational change.

“I want to be part of creating the modern union,” says Janet. “I want people to understand that not all unions are bad and any union can change. Employees should be rewarded in such a way that employers and employees alike can be successful, so it’s about restoring the symbiotic relationship between union and employer. There needs to be a balance.”

Longstanding unions develop hierarchies over time. A progressive union has an interest in making decisions as a “self-directed” union, where the real concerns of members can be heard and addressed. Leading this type of change is not easy, but it’s the Labour Leadership Team’s specialty.

“Change happens whether we like it or not,” says Janet. “Some unions embrace change. Those are the unions where I can have the most positive influence.”

Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 1289

    in Self Help

SPECIAL TOPIC Night - "For Our Kids" - Deborah Maddison and Eugenea Couture, Canadian activists from British Columbia, will join Bill Murray to lead this evening's discussion about the Rights of Children and Families in North America. TONIGHT'S TOPIC: "Lost In The Void" - According to the U.S. State Department, human trafficking is one of the greatest human rights challenges of this century, both in the United States and around the world. It is a multi-billion dollar industry that affects every race, class and gender, and people are trafficked not only for sex but for labour and organ harvesting. All of our children are vulnerable, and anyone can be targeted. It is one of the biggest crimes world-wide, almost surpassing the drug trade, and often is done in plain sight or even through government agencies. The criminals aren't always the scary unknown stranger, and the victims aren't always who we see as 'vulnerable', and so even though it is right in front of us, if it doesn't touch us, we often never see it at all. Join us tonight on the "For Our Kids" talk show as we discuss this very important topic with an incredible panel of guests. ~~ Every two weeks a new THEME will be presented in this series, with frequent special guests speaking from their own experience. ~~ Please see our web page at: www.NAASCA.org/ForOurKids or write to: naasca.forourkids@gmail.com

What's the matter with Kansas? "The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy recently reported that Kansas has the ninth-most unfair tax system in the county.  A Kansan earning $47,700 a year pays 9.5 percent of income in state and local taxes; but someone earning $1,191,700 pays an effective rate of just 3.6 percent."

So much for the 'trickle down' libertarian economic theories masterminded by the Wichita plutocrats Charles & David Koch; and implemented by Gov. Sam Brownback and his cronies in the state legislature.

    Program Summary: Feb. 6, 2016

1st Hour - A special series first produced by The Real News Network 2015 featuring Pulitzer prize winning investigative journalist David Cay Johnston on his astounding trilogy of books about economic inequality in the United States.

2nd Hour - Hear the latest (released for distribution 20 Feb. 2015) from investigative reporter, Tony Gosling & "Old Labour" Martin Summer as they host from Bristol's community radio station the "Friday Drivetime" show.

Trans-Pacific Partnership - The Death of Sovereignty with Meghan Sali

    in Politics

    Trans-Pacific Partnership

12 nations, 11% of global population, 40% of the global economy, 25% of global imports, 30% of global exports. 800 million people bound by an agreement negotiated in secret from the citizens and almost all elected representatives. Who wrote it then? Trade representatives with multi-national corporate lobbyists and executives at the tables from start to finish.

A 30 chapter agreement with 5 involving actual trade. Environment. Financial Services. Patents. Copyrights. Intellectual Property. Pharmaceuticals. Health Care. Investment. Labour. Market Access. Procurement. Tobacco. State Owned Enterprises. Biotechnology and GMO's. And a new iron-clad version of the infamous Investor State Dispute Settlement "mechanism" complete with secret tribunals, secret judgements and secret awards. 5,544 pages worth of regulations, schedules, indexes, timetables and LOOPHOLES to empower the most powerful corporations on earth to have veto power say over how signatory nations will live their day-to-day lives. This is the latest method for the mostly American corporate elite to bypass the WTO, exclude and isolate "unfriendly" economies, enslave "freindly" economies and laugh all the way to the bank.

Protests have been raging in every "partner nation" for years as February 4 nears as the day for "signing" of the agreement in Auckland, New Zealand. There is no opting out of any section or provision unless stated before that signing by any nation. No renegotiation.

We are joined by Meghan Sali, a digital rights specialist with OpenMedia, org, leading the organization's free expression campaigns. For the past two years, she has been co-ordinating the campaign to shed light on the implications of TPP as they relate to preserving our online rights and building a properous, inclusive digital future.

Tune in and hear the facts on TPP.

Nadine Sutherland LIVE January 31, 2016 at 8 PM

    in Motivation

Nadine Sutherland began performing in 1979, winning the Tastee Talent Contest that year (beating Paul Blake and Yellowman), with her parents managing her career while she studied at St Andrew High School. Nadine Sutherland began performing in 1980 and balanced her recording career, which was managed by her parents, with her education. When Bob Marley heard her work, she was recruited to Tuff Gong.  Her 1993 hit with Terror Fabulous, ‘Action’, was used by the Jamaican Labour Party as their campaign theme (incidentally, without her consent). The same year, she enjoyed a number 1 placing on the reggae chart when Buju Banton’s 1992 hit ‘Dickie’ was re-released featuring Sutherland’s vocals as ‘Wicked Dickie’.

"We come here with no peaceful intent, but ready for battle, determined to avenge our wrongs and set our country free. Let your masters come and attack us: we are ready to meet them beard to beard." - Sir William Wallace

The essential act of war is destruction, not necessarily of human lives, but of the products of human labour. War is a way of shattering to pieces, or pouring into the stratosphere, or sinking in the depths of the sea, materials which might otherwise be used to make the masses too comfortable, and hence, in the long run, too intelligent.

    – From George Orwell’s, 1984

Exercise caution in your daily affairs.

    Eyes up at all times.
