CUTV News Radio spotlights Janet Stewart's Labour Leadership Team

    in Business

Ottawa, Ontario – The current and future economic playing field requires union members and employers alike to work together toward mutual success. It's time to let go of old thinking: “Us vs. Them.” The modern union must harness the energy and expertise of its members to work more effectively with employers and other partners.

Janet Stewart and the Labour Leadership Team have asserted themselves as “The Change Agents of Choice” for progressive unions. The Labour Leadership Team specializes in working with forward-thinking, partner-minded unions that recognize the value of working collaboratively with employers for mutual success. Janet works with unions to build a customized leadership development program to promote organizational change.

“I want to be part of creating the modern union,” says Janet. “I want people to understand that not all unions are bad and any union can change. Employees should be rewarded in such a way that employers and employees alike can be successful, so it’s about restoring the symbiotic relationship between union and employer. There needs to be a balance.”

Longstanding unions develop hierarchies over time. A progressive union has an interest in making decisions as a “self-directed” union, where the real concerns of members can be heard and addressed. Leading this type of change is not easy, but it’s the Labour Leadership Team’s specialty.

“Change happens whether we like it or not,” says Janet. “Some unions embrace change. Those are the unions where I can have the most positive influence.”

    Weighed down with burdens

    in Christianity

The weight of this world can overwhelm you if you let it, but God has given us a way to combat any situation. In the Bible (Matthew 11:28-30), Jesus invited us to "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and i will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek ad lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest Unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light". Remember that we no longer have to bear the burden or become overwhelmed because Jesus is our Savior.

What's the matter with Kansas? "The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy recently reported that Kansas has the ninth-most unfair tax system in the county.  A Kansan earning $47,700 a year pays 9.5 percent of income in state and local taxes; but someone earning $1,191,700 pays an effective rate of just 3.6 percent."

So much for the 'trickle down' libertarian economic theories masterminded by the Wichita plutocrats Charles & David Koch; and implemented by Gov. Sam Brownback and his cronies in the state legislature.

    Program Summary: Nov. 7, 2015

1st Hour - Kansas legislative updates provided by the local news media and commentary from the Progressive Caucus of the Kansas Democratic Party.

2nd Hour - Hear the latest (released for distribution 20 Feb. 2015) from investigative reporter, Tony Gosling & "Old Labour" Martin Summer as they host from Bristol's community radio station the "Friday Drivetime" show.

    Jeremy Corbyn

    in Politics

The hope of change and bringing big ideas in is now back at the centre of politics: ending austerity, tackling inequality, working for peace and social justice at home and abroad. That’s why the Labour party was founded more than a century ago.

This election has given that founding purpose a new force for the 21st century: a Labour party that gives voice to the 99%.

The scale of Saturday’s vote is an unequivocal mandate for change from a democratic upsurge that has already become a social movement. I am honoured and humbled by the confidence that has been shown in me by our members and supporters and I will give everything I have to repay that confidence.

We fought and won on the basis of policies, not personalities, without abuse or rancour. For the absolute avoidance of doubt, my leadership will be about unity, drawing on all the talents – with women representing half of the shadow cabinet – and working together at every level of the party. Jeremy Corbyn

    Natural Revolution: Eco-Socialism? What's That?

    in Current Events

Karl Marx wrote in Kapital v. 1 " labour is the father of material wealth, the earth is its mother." Many socialists have explored radical ecology, but until the latter 1980s there was not a truly sustained effort at creating a compelling ecological version of a socialist economic vision.

Many of the early founders of the US Green Movement were also socialists and in 1991, Green Party activist Joel Kovel co-wrote "The Eco-Socialist Manifesto" and his own book, "The Enemy of Nature" which defined an Eco-Socialist Vision of a post-capitalist economic system.

This episode of RRLove will talk about Eco-Socialism, which seems highly relevant in the midst of Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, as a self-identified socialist.
