In 1930 Fred Bergin earned a living working in various orchestras, playing for the likes of Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, and his own band, the Vagabonds.

After five years fronting a musical act, he needed a change.  Skate dancing was gaining in popularity, and skate dancers needed a tempo and a rhythm to gracefully move to the music.

S3 E10 You won't believe these wacky labels!

    in News

1/13/2014 at 1PM EST- Bob will discuss the wacky labels manufacturers are forced to put on their products to protect themselves from frivolous lawsuits, and some of the lawsuits that drive prices up and job creation down.

Bob Dorigo Jones, serves as Senior Fellow for the Center for America, is the author of the bestselling Remove Child Before Folding, The 101 Stupidest, Silliest and Wackiest Warning Labels Ever. He is the host of a new national radio commentary, “Let’s Be Fair,” through which he shares important stories about the impact of crazy lawsuits and a litigation-happy culture on our communities and families. Bob has overseen high-profile programs calling attention to the absurdity of lawsuit abuse, including the internationally profiled annual Wacky Warning Labels Contest. Bob has appeared on dozens of national and international TV and radio programs, including NBC Nightly News, ABC News’ 20/20, BBC WorldNews, FOX News, and CNBC.

Dorigo Jones, who was president of Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch (M-LAW) for 16 years, has focused for nearly two decades on educating the public about how families, communities, and job providers are hurt by out-of-control lawsuit abuse.
Prior to joining CFA, Dorigo Jones served on the staff of the Michigan House of Representatives. He received a B.A. in economics and political philosophy from James Madison College at Michigan State University.

Parent Talk Live: Black Males and Dyslexia

    in Education

Dr. Mike Robinson, host of Parent Talk Live discusses Black Males and Dyslexia with his guest Shawn Anthony Robinson.

BIO:  Shawn Anthony Robinson, M.Ed, is a doctoral candidate at Cardinal Stritch University (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) in the Literacy and Language program. His concentration is on giftedness and dyslexia. Robinson brings a wealth of academic experience, training and knowledge about the psychological development of dyslexia, especially among Black males who have not tapped into their gifts because of their misdiagnosis and inability to read or spell. He is an emerging national speaker, and one of few scholars in the United States with a research focus on the scholarship, theory and literature addressing theoretical or psychological frameworks investigating twice-exceptional Black males who have dyslexia.

Practitioners working with gifted Black males with dyslexia must understand how these students navigate educational systems, understand their unique learning styles, and how they construct knowledge through different sociocultural experiences, which are associated with their self-perception, self-esteem and sense of identity.

Album 415 (1777) Vocal Duet with Guitar and Mandolin

Karl Victor Davis and Connecticut 'Harty' Taylor were both born in Mount Vernon, Kentucky in 1905. In 1929, Doc Hopkins enlisted Davis and Taylor for the Krazy Kats, a string band that featured folk songs and pop tunes in their repertoire. Following a year with WHAS in Louisville, Davis and Taylor moved to WLS in Chicago where they became part of the Cumberland Ridge Runners on the 'National Barn Dance' radio show. Davis and Taylor were originally known as the Renfro Valley Boys and they recorded under that name for Paramount in 1932. It was because of their radio work that they became known as Karl & Harty. In 1934 the team began recording for the American Record Corporation labels. I'm just here To Get My Baby out Of Jail was their first hit. Later hits were The Prisoner's Dream and Davis's song Kentucky which was covered by The Everly Brothers and The Osborne Brothers and others

    Who Are You?

    in Homeschooling

Are you different than others?  Of course you are?  Don't accept labels!  What do you think your purpose in life is?  What is your very essence? Are you living your essence or are you living the life you were patterned to live?

What?  Did you wear clothes that made you look like another person when you were a teen or did you cut your own?  Did you wear the latest hair style or did you find a different look?  Who are you and why are you here?  Are you only here because a couple decided to have sex and create another human being so you merely exist to please them?   I doubt it!!! Let's shout about this interesting topic!   Who are you, anyway?

Who are you?  Who are you?  Who are you?  What can you do about being the person you were meant to be if you don't know that you are meant to be more than an adult doing a boring job?
