Kelli Richards is the CEO of the All Access Group and host of All Access Radio. She has spent over 20 years forging innovative alliances between rock stars and tech geniuses; and driving the convergence of Silicon Valley, Hollywood & Madison Avenue through disruptive technologies and emerging business models.
Tonight’s guest is Michael Dorf. When Michael was 23, he used his Bar Mitzvah savings to open the Knitting Factory, a combination cafe, art and performance space housed in Lower Manhattan.
As Chairman and CEO of Knitting Factory, Michael expanded the brand into Europe and Asia through record sales, festivals and tours. Michael is also a pioneer in the world of producing internet music. He left Knitting Factory in 2003, and in 2004 Michael entered an entirely different world and had his first experience with winemaking, which became his next passion. Michael created City Winery in 2007, the first fully operational winery in Manhattan, along with two wine bars which include a cheese bar, restaurant and performance space. City Winery is also one of New York's preeminent concert venues, with a list of artists such as Suzanne Vega, Philip Glass, Joan Osborne and Patti Smith. Michael opened the second City Winery in Chicago with great success. BOOK CLUB: The Long Ride
by World Footprints in Travel
Tags: Rainforest Action Network Environmental Issues Horseback Cross Country Trip Lucian Spataro World Footprints Book Club
Our book club reading today, The Long Ride, is the story of a team of people who in 1989 traveled coast to coast on horseback to raise awareness about the plight of the world’s rainforests—an issue that was not on the radar of most people at that time. It started in Los Angeles and ended 2963 miles away in Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. A challenge of endurance, a statement of commitment to raising awareness about the plight of the Rainforest, The Long Ride tells of the extraordinary passion and perseverance of Lucian Spataro and his team, as he rode on horseback from coast to coast. In his second book about this historic cross-country journey, Spataro offers an honest, inspiring, comical and beautiful fusion between travel-log, advocacy and photo journal.
